I can remember when it was illegal too kill a doe with a gun…. period.
Bow and Muzzleloader season were both established too offer hunters more opportunity at killing a deer..
50 years ago deer weren't tied behind every bush..
So any additional time in the field was a plus & many of us bought the appropriate gear too hunt those additional seasons.
WMA's started having Primitive Weapons either sex hunts meaning legal weapons being a bow be it traditional or compound or a muzzleloader of specific caliber and it must be loaded from the muzzle.
Crossbows were only allowed for Handicapped Hunters.
Soon after States started having the special Muzzleloading season a month or so after bow season had opened..

.45 cal H& R Huntsman I owed one just like it, be it far from a traditional muzzloader.
At least that's the way I remember it all beginning..
