FSU and BAMA talking season opener 2017

https://m.facebook.com/CoachBobbyBowden ... 1280680661

Pretty much says so right here. Bobby knew that the SEC schedule was a lot tougher and staying in a weaker conference was the a easier way to compete for a NC. Just recently he weighted in again when Jimbo Fisher talked of switching to a different conference. BB told JF, "Do you want to win National Championships at Florida State? You've got a lot better chance in the ACC than you do in the Big 12 or the SEC."

Yes I did say won. I should have qualified it by stating win by major college teams. Marshall, with all due respect to Marshall fans, has no place in this conversation.

During the 1990s alone, FSU had a 109-13-1 record, the most victories by any team during a decade. Only Oklahoma during the 1950s won a higher percentage of its games (89.5 percent) during one decade than Florida State did during the '90s (88.6 percent).

No this doesn't have anything to do with streaks but before you harp about thread drift, you should note I didn't bring up streaks or conferences affiliation. Someone else did.
cool outta the top 10 teams who won the most games in the 90's 3 are now in the SEC florida,Tennessee and texas A&M. UT and UF was top 5. We already talked about bama's 28 game win streak in the 90's. Bama might not be in the top 10 but since they went 28-0 at one point in the sec I'm just gonna guess they was the best team in college for 2 years outta the 90's.
See when you got 2 or 3 teams that's REALLY REALLY good and you got to play them teams every SINGLE year it's hard to go on a huge winning streak lol and win almost every game.
That's what I was talking about in the "If FSU had the vols schedule" topic I don't think ANYONE would have FSU at 27-0 at this point.
If they played 7 sec games a year. Mostly ranked teams half on the road

FSU ACC schedule this year
Clemson 8-3
Nc st. 6-5
Wake 3-8
Syracuse 3-8
Louisville 8-3
UVA 5-6
Miami 6-5
BC 6-5

Vols sec schedule
Georgia 9-2
Florida 6-4
Ole miss 8-3
Bama 10-1
SC 6-5
MIZZ 8-3
Kentucky 5-6
Vandy 3-8

Vols played 4 teams that won 8+ games in the SEC, FSU played 2 that won 8+ games in the ACC lol
Vols played 2 that won 9+ games in the SEC, FSU played 0 teams that won 9+ games in the ACC:)
Just to show the difference in a ACC schedule vs sec schedule

From what I remember about the FSU to the SEC and why it didn't happen wasn't about $$. It was about being able to win. Bowden didn't want to have to compete with the SEC schools all the time. All that newfound success in football would be watered down and he knew it. There may even be a link floating around out there of Bowden saying it.

I am curious to know why, after 20 to 25 years of being turned down by the SEC, when the the ACC asks FSU to join them, the SEC also wants them. Yes, it was about money. Always is.

Regarding the alleged conversation between Bobby Bowden and Jimbo Fisher, please post up that link.

Thanks for the link. It does not say to who whom the message, not advice, would be given.
As we learned earlier Head Coaches at FSU do not choose in what conferences their team plays, nor do they choose the teams they play. They play the schedule they are given and at FSU, they play to win them all. Nevertheless there is nothing new about his remark. His Facebook comment (posted earlier) clearly outlines his goal. True then, true today.

"The best road to a national title was through the ACC. A national championship was my number one goal every year"......Bobby Bowden.

I pretty sure that the SEC was talking to FSU for expansion a year before the ACC did. And yes, Bowden didn't want to play an SEC schedule AFTER he got the Noles to where they could challenge for a title. He was all for it before anyone knew FSU played football.

I am asked why we joined the ACC instead of the SEC back in 1992. We were invited to join both conferences the same year. Let me first say that we (FSU) had applied for membership in the SEC for the previous 20 to 25 years but were turned down every time. When we made our decision, the people making those decisions preferred the ACC for academic reasons.

What part did I play in it? I merely agreed to whatever those responsible decided. I had always been an SEC fan. I did feel, however, that between the SEC and the ACC, the best road to a national title was through the ACC. A national championship was my number one goal every year. The SEC is so tough, top to bottom, that they beat up on each other week after week. In the '90's we played for the national title five times and won two. This proves my point. Plus, FSU won another title last year and may win again this year! Bobby is right .SEC didn't want any part of FSU until they agreed to join the ACC. The basketball money was far greater than the SEC could provide. The SEC is still scared and will not agree to any home and home match up. Auburn bought their way out twice already

Man, talk about some fiction. FSU doesn't scare anyone, Bowden knows he would have never had the success if FSU joined the ACC and last, but not least, basketball money is a freakin' joke compared to football money. To use basketball as an excuse is just too dang funny.

I sure hope badnole hangs around for a while after FSU gets destroyed the same way Notre Dame did a few years ago. Very similiar situations...mediocre teams who played no-one and remained highly rated.

Shoot I'll be around.I dish it out but can take it also.Really don't see any reason to leave though.SEC ain't so tough. By the way the basketball money back in 1992 was far greater than SEC football paid.ACC was the king and probably still pretty close to the top.
Oh and I forgot ,didn't Auburn beat Bama last year? Ole Miss beat Bama?FSU beat Bama? They will ,just like in 2007.

As the Seminoles become members of the ACC, the Southeastern Conference continues to act like the jilted girlfriend. First, it was the immature act of voting not to give Florida State further consideration for membership.
`I`m totally shocked at what the Southeastern Conference presidents did,`` football coach Bobby Bowden said. ``It`s hard for me to understand.``
Then, there is the rumor SEC schools will not play Florida State beyond current contracts. It was apparently based on a request of FSU to control its schedule if it joined the SEC.
``Not an unreasonable request,`` Athletic Director Bob Goin said. ``We`ve been playing Southeastern Conference schools and haven`t been in a conference. They are great universities, and we`d hope to continue our relationship with them.``
Non-revenue sports including baseball, a money maker at FSU, would be enhanced: ``We drew 108,000 last year, and this will help improve it,`` coach Mike Martin said. ``The ACC is underrated in every sport except basketball. It had four teams, North Carolina, Clemson, Georgia Tech and North Carolina State, make the regionals in baseball last year. There`s no way for us to match the success we`ve enjoyed in Metro playing in the ACC.``
 Paying the bills: Florida State made $10 million in football last season and $700,000 in basketball. As an independent, FSU kept all of the money.
Using last year`s revenue figures, FSU would lose $1 million in all sports by joining the SEC, but would gain $2 million by joining the ACC based on the differing distribution formulas.
The same isn`t true in the ACC. The ACC will draw from Florida State`s football prominence and its presence gives the league an entrance into the state`s television audience. The Seminoles will benefit from the conference`s basketball stature. `Like a good marriage, there is some give on both sides,`` Goin said, ``and it has been well accepted by everyone.`` With the exception of the SEC, but, who cares? After all, it was the SEC that left Florida State at the altar and not the other way around.

No one cares about basketball. I don't think I have ever seen a basketball thread posted here.
