Quit ! Talked to the guy who adjoins my property and let's me hunt his yesterday. Gave him a late Christmas gift that I tried to do before Christmas but his gate was locked...guess they were on vacation . But to the point I've got to do some scouting on his side moreso but I've tried to respect the others that hunt his property . Other than a couple places I had no ideal where these deer bed .....that's a shame that I accept as being lazy ....old yes but lazy . I'm going to have to crap or get off the pot . The last few years are not like me in relation to hunting. Yes I don't feel like I used to but that's got to change or just give it up one . I once said and I still hold to it I'm not going to play a game I'm going to kill something !

Need a cattle prod on your @$$? Get up, put the phone down, your pants on, and go enjoy the beautiful sun shiny day. All you're going to accomplish with this quitting talk nonsense is more quitting. So stop talking and go do.
Your exactly right but I have responsibilities that can't wait. With that said I can make time....no excuses .

I feel the same way Snake. I hardly ever make morning hunts. Especially when the temps plummet. I've got to get this lazy azz of my back. I still enjoy being out there when I'm out there. This year has to be different. I'm sick and tired of feeling sick and tired and lazy.

I used to think that people that made excuses for life getting in the way were just not serious hunters, and could hunt if they really wanted to. These past couple of seasons have placed me in the same category now I think. When you're run down, and trying to just keep up enough to just go to work, on top of family obligations and time, hunting time is at a premium anymore. Plus, with empty nest looming, I will stay home if my daughter is home and not out with her friends, just to spend some time with her, and the rest of the family as well. :) Yeah, I'll hunt, when I get time now. :)

I feel myself getting there too. Blessed to be able to do whatever I want at 70 yrs, have a great place to hunt & nice camp to stay in, but...I find myself making excuses.

This year I stayed at camp from Nov 1 - Jan 7, minus 1/2 day at Thanksgiving & 3 days at Christmas. I missed some good morning hunts simply because I talked myself out of it when alarm went off. I only hunted one particular buck this year, and sometimes I'd say the wind is wrong, it's raining, this afternoon will be better, too dang cold, or I'll sleep a couple more hours and hunt mid morning until dark. I even have the thought, "would I really shoot another big deer", it's been 3 years since I shot a buck and if I had another one mounted, I'd have to take one off wall to make room... The young me would have never allowed these deterrents to happen.

On the other hand I got to sleep until 8, leisurely drink a pot of coffee, have a big breakfast ready for grands & friends when they came out of woods, strategize about where I going to hunt "tomorrow" morning lol, or be available to take Scout and go look for a deer that someone didn't find.

I guess it's all perspective on what you consider a good season.

5 phases of a hunter:
1. Gotta kill one
2. Gotta kill a bunch of them
3. Gotta kill a big one
4. Gotta kill the biggest one
5. Just like being there (Me now)

In Sept & October I got to spend weeks in the Mtns chasing elk with new friends and I didn't even have a license. I scouted, offered bad advice, cooked, tagged along on hunts and had a wonderful time!

I dream of the day where I am that guy. And if ever I am blessed with such position I will embrace it with glee.

Snake, I can't think of many times that I've regretted making myself go to the woods during those periods were motivation was lacking. The worst day hunting plays little on my mind compared to the regret of not going, especially if nothing was holding me back.

Sooooooo…….. take a laxative to help you get off the pot, or call a friend to come over and kick your hind end around the yard as motivation…😁

I've really got good excuses guys 🙄
1.The places I hunt now aren't what I become accustomed to . Seen four total deer this year and I did go hunting several times ...even took my bow once .
2.Hunt alone now ....no one to share your experiences.
3. Grandson who was my hunting partner passed away @ age 26.
4. 70 fixing to turn 71 with a bad back , knees and shoulders ...I've made it hard on my poor ole body .
5. Since I've retired my wife is used to me being around most times ...she not bedridden but not far from it so she depends entirely on me . She don't care for me hunting she's afraid I'll fall with no one to help me .

Was in a lease in middle Tennessee and never set foot on it a couple years back . That's just not me guys I was like a kid in a candy store when I was looking at new property trying to dissect the best places for a stand . I'm just losing what make us weather the dark , the weather and the pitfalls of hunting because they are definitely some cons to hunting deer . Alot of pros but more cons ...got to admitt if you really want to hunt deer you'll put up with the cons .

Wish I lived near you to help you out on a hunt!
