Had a fun day on the water at Pickwick today. Caught around 40. Got on some schools of fish where it was fast and furious for a couple dozen casts. Post spawn fish making that transition out to offshore structure and starting to school up. Doesn't get much better than that!

Do you ever not wear them out

:D

Haven't this year. Being in the marine business, everybody else is out having fun while we are slammed at work. That was my 1st trip to Pickwick since March. Luckily, we are having a company tournament at Pickwick on Wednesday, so I'll be there all day tomorrow and Wednesday. I can't wait, especially after yesterday.

Awesome. That makes me want to go. Them 2 little girls keep me from it. I love it when they come off the beds and go deep. I remember a Monday night tourney up there several years back. 2nd week of may everyone blasted off and my buddy just putted around and let traffic clear. He pulled straight up to 212 and we smoked em. Everyone was still fishing shallow.

Caught a lot of em yesterday in your neck of the woods on Pickwick too, if you catch my drift! ;)

Cool.

I was there May 2 and 3 fishing for anything that swims.

The catfish were not where I wanted them to be. I caught 3 and didn't bother looking for more. I fished a white/charteuse tail slider grub on a 1/32 oz head. I hooked something big in 20-30 ft of water. The grub stopped, I applied pressure thinking I was hung, and the drag started singing. The fish was on for a minute or two before coming off.

I ended up having the most fun catching bluegill. There were solid numbers of them in the last small cove on the right coming in from the river in 4-5 fow.

I caught 3 flatheads while bass fishing your creek also. One ate a 3/4 oz football jig and the other 2 on a crankbait. All 3 in a span of about 30 minutes while we were catching bass.

Did you notice any pattern to where the flatheads were located? Depth? Cover?

Trying for the bigger catfish (flatheads and blues) is one of the things I'm working on this year.

Just found out last night that I'll be there this weekend. Fishing maybe Saturday but definitely Sunday.

Up close to the bluff walls, closer to the mouths of the creeks near anywhere where the wall comes to a point. It's pretty deep right up against those walls, but seems to be a little shallower, closer to the points. They were right against the walls. I would imagine they were deeper, because we were throwing 3/4 oz jigs and they fall pretty quick. The crankbait I was throwing goes 10-12 ft deep and if I could parallel the wall, about 8-10 ft out from the wall, with my cast, I could feel the crankbait tick the rocks every now and then before it crashes off into deep water.

The first of May the corners of those walls were good for the bass too.

I'm not sure what I'll fish for this weekend. All depends on what I'm in the mood for and what I think I can catch the most of when I get on the water.

I'll be in a green sit-in kayak, with a green life vest, and have a orange UT hat on.

Especially if you bend the line tie enough to make it run off to one side so that it crashes in to the bluff wall while you parallel it! ;)
