Gutting courtesy

I am not moving a mature buck one foot more than I need to with extra weight in it. I showed up at FT Campbell checkin with the lower legs off once about 10 years ago, won't do that again. You would have thought I got caught spotlighting. I carried that thing on a bare frame whole to my truck about 3/4 mile. Those lower legs on a mature buck are probably 4lbs each it adds up.

For me, there is some difference between gutting a deer and completely deboning one on the spot. The guts disappear pretty quickly. But sure don't understand why someone would gut one back at the parking spot.

I don't want to stereotype today's young folks, but many of them probably drag it to the truck, where Dad- or another adult can do the field dressing.
Who really knows but I will say I know more adult hunters that have hunted for a long time that won't gut one. I've gutted several for older adults that honestly should be ashamed lol.

My first deer at FTCKY, I called ahead of time and asked if I could fully field dress a deer in the woods, to include skinning and taking the head off, I was told yes. Showed up, and they were waiting for me, apparently I was told wrong and had to drive back with the MP to show proof of sex.

What gets me is the people that drag out with guts loads deer and take it to the processor for them to gut and fuss about the gut fee.
I took the one to the processor today and 2 young guys where there fussing about the fee and when i got to the counter the lady behind the counter asked if it was gutted and stopped and said nevermind your a real deer hunter. Those 2 guys turned red and walked out. It was hilarious.

Even worse is that people will actually take it to a processor intact and pay the processor an extra $20 or so to do the field dressing. The processor I used to use had to mandate that field dressing be done before dropping off and absolutely would not accept any deer that hadn't been field dressed. He had multiple come in every day intact.

I have long since been using a deer cart. Does not work everywhere but most places it helps. So glad we came up with the wheel all those years ago. Even with that still gut them in place. Personally I have never known anyone that did not gut their own deer, or did it with some guidance at least.

The kicker is- field dressing a deer or anything else isn't that hard with a decent knife- or time consuming.

The hog I mentioned earlier- I took a picture of at 4:39 on the ground. I got out my knife and gloves, and dressed it. I took another picture at 4:51 with it dressed, loaded and strapped to the four wheeler. 12 minutes…. If you don't have that much time, you don't have time to pull the trigger.

Yes. When I showed up to Custom Deer Processing in Medon every deer checked Sunday morning when I arrived was not dressed out. Dont't get it. Maybe the manbun crowd was out in full force!

I'd gut deer all day long for $20 a pop. I've timed myself (knife and saw at the ready) and can do one in 3 minutes. $400 an hour wouldn't be bad pay😀

It's funny you say that- there was a guy who used to camp with us at Catoosa. He would always pay someone $20 to gut his deer. I did it for him 4/5 times.
It was never an issue except for when he gut shot one, that wasn't much fun.

Back when the Gallatin Steam Plant was a WMA there was a area near one of the parking areas that people used to dump carcasses.
