HB 1618

I have shared my opinion on this topic many times and walked away from it many days ago...but y'all wont stop lol...so I'll add a few more things to consider when trying to decide what is best for wildlife. As managers and stewards of land and wildlife we have to weigh out what we do and consider the return on investment.
So the information below, if memory is correct, comes from the Wisconsin DNR, a state thats been dealing with CWD much longer that we have. But even with that aside, most wildlife biologist will agree on the bullet points below. Not arguing, Just sharing information for people to consider as they decide what to do going forward.

  • Disease transmission: Baiting can cause deer to gather in one place, which can lead to the spread of diseases like Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD).

  • Competition: Baiting can lead to increased competition between deer.

  • Predation: Baiting can make deer more susceptible to predation.

  • Behavior changes: Baiting can alter deer's natural foraging behavior, which can lead to changes in their movement and distribution patterns. For example, deer that are baited may become more active at night.
And then there are the deadly effects of aflatoxin to turkey poults and a variety of song birds and some studys have even shown lower average fawn birth weights from does who have high levels of aflatoxin.

Just information to consider when or if baiting is legalized.
I appreciate your post but to be honest salt/ mineral sites , small food plots and water holes could also spread diseases as well ....so the only fact that I could agree with baiting being a danger is the aflatoxin deal .That's enough because most care if it's hurting our turkey population if they are truely a sportsman , bashing them actually don't help . Yes baiting is an easier way for a person to be successful, food plots are as well ...the only point is that food plots are more natural...not ! Keep the argument to the true facts ....because this name calling ...lazy , unethical etc could also be that your calling about every professional hunter there are that as well . I've seen most kill over baited sites .

You show me one post where I've called one person lazy or unethical? Ive never bashed one person. Get your facts straight before replying to my post brother....I've shared facts as I know them....I believe theres a difference between bait piles and food plots done correctly...and research supports those facts....Im not name calling, Im sharing what Ive learned and studied on the topic...if the facts make people upset or offend people then so be it...none of our feelings change whats best for wildlife.

Wasn't relating it directly to you but it has been said ...I apologize to you but just replied on your post......once again I'm sorry . Wasn't even going to respond on this thread but the name calling started. I really could care less either way . My property is far enough away it would be hard to keep a bait station full anyway . The time I did was to get photos of what frequented my little place . Now I don't even run cameras...consumes to much time for me .

Thanks. I appreciate your reply. I'm all about discussing best practices, etc.
But I'm not interested in name calling. Everyone has an opinion on the topic and I'm just sharing mine.
