Got to a corner of a field where I could hear drumming. There are two patches of trees near the corner, and I snuck halfway into one of them and sat down.
Watched some hens, two jakes and a strutter in the field about 80-100 yards out. My calling must have worked, because the hens slowly filed past me about 30 yards, in between my patch of trees and the other patch of trees.
The tom and jakes just had to follow suit....nope, they slipped right through that other patch of trees and joined up with the hens on the other side.
I listened to em feeding off into the woods and now I think they've mostly all flown up. Hope I don't bust em sneaking out.
Also heard several gobbles from different directions, some on ground some on roost. Still hearing em as I type. I've got my work cut out for me tomorrow, but I can't get out here till about 10 am. To be continued....
