Heading to mississippi

Green up is almost non-existent in March most years in the northern 1/3 of the state. Especially understory green up. We start getting those first tiny tree leaves last week in March. Everything starts greening up first week in April. Drop down to central MS and green up is a week or more ahead of north MS most years.

What part of MS will you be going to? Been seeing a lot of activity in NE MS the last few weeks. Starting to bust up, but still seeing some large flocks as well in some areas.
Honestly we havnt pin pointed a location yet (there are 3 of us that got drawn) planning on heading down Friday around noon and checking some of the wmas and seeing if we can get lucky enough to put eyes on some birds before dark. If not it's just going to be a crap shoot as to where we go Saturday morning because itl be all of our first times stepping foot in Mississippi to Turkey hunting. We are going into this weekend with little to no expectations. We are looking forward to hunting some new country though.

Ummm... be careful about which WMAs you plan on hunting... many have a separate draw different than the 'nonresident' permit you drew.

Weather not looking favorable for north MS this weekend. Wet and windy, then windy before it stabilizes.
Since I work 4 tens Wednesday though Saturday, and I was going to burn 10 hours vacation for opening day to sit in the rain all day, plus we are camping, I decided to start my season Sunday. I've gotten soft in my old age. I have always despised turkey hunting in the rain, and burning 10 hours to be miserable in the rain all day doesn't make sense to me. Sunday and Monday are going to be beautiful although a little windy.

All quiet this morning in south MS... 70d, cloudy, humid. Most of the songbirds were quiet. I still haven't found a bird to hunt for opening morning... one chance left tomorrow morn before work.
