I have an itch for a new bolt action in 6mm with a short barrel (16-20"). This would be for deer hunting and would be suppressed. I currently have a ruger american in 350 legend and love it but looking for longer ranges. Yes I have plenty of other rifles to fill the niche but I have that itch for a 6mm 😂 I am thinking on 6arc, 243 win, 6 creedmor. Any suggestions???

I like the 6arc, especially for that barrel length.

My 6cm has been stellar as well though.

For 25-27grs of powder the arc is pretty fantastic.

I've got a Stevens 243 that is the most accurate centerfire rifle I have with nosler 90 grn bullet /imr4350. The Stevens model was discontinued a few years ago but it's just a Savage M10 with the Stevens name on it. 243 ammo and components/data are widely available with bullets from 58 grn to 110 grn.

243 would be my choice and if you handload the 6 may be tied for 1st.

My 700 ADL 243 from mid-1980's has over (IIRC) over 2,000 rounds down the barrel and is still shooting under 1 inch.

However, the short barrel may give me pause. You best be handloading if you go anything under 18 inches.

Howa mini action in 6 arc, you won't regret it. It has quickly became my favorite rifle.
How do you like that? And did you buy a barreled action or the whole rifle?

I already have a 6arc AR and it's one of my favorite rifles for sure.

To the OP, i think it depends on what you REALLY want. If you reload: 6arc or creedmoor. Then just figure out how far you'd actually shoot critters and pick from there. I like how cheap the ARC can be to shoot. It's right down there with a 223 if you want it to be. If you're buying all your bullets, it's the 243. Neither of those come close for factory ammo options or availability

I had an old Remington Mohawk 600 in .243 as my second deer rifle. Bought it at "Lickity Split" in Cookeville many, many years ago. I killed a truck load of deer with that thing. I think it had a 18" barrel. Wish I had it back.

I love it, I bought the whole rifle (plastic stock, 20" heavy barrel) and it's a shooter. Mine did not like hornady eldx ammo at all, but loves hsm 95 gr sst, and shoots sub half moa. I havent atarted loadingfor it yet. Mine convinced 5 of my buddies that they needed one as well and all 5 have shot less than a half inch. I'll probably buy another

243 would be my choice, lot of bang flop on deer with mine, almost 4000fps with the factory 55g varmint bullets. it's a do anything you need caliber that has a lot of inherent accuracy.
