How Far Will You Shoot A Deer This Year?

It really depends on the conditions, and the scenario when the shot is presented. There have been times I had to let a deer walk under 20 yards just because the shot angle wasnt good enough for an ethical shot... but there have been times when the deer wasnt spooked, standing broadsided, head down eating browse and I pushed an arrow through at 48 yards... so it all depends, in perfect conditions, I think 50-55 is max.

30yds I'll say this again, the point of bowhunting is to get close. IMO if you have to shoot much past 30yds then an adjustment in strategy needs to happen.

I've never shot a deer over 20 yards. For years I just hunted with a single pin. The only reason I'm shooting 3 pins now is because it's a pain in the rear to put my fiber optics back in if I need to. I guess I would shoot one out to 40 or 50 if I practiced that shot and then in the woods I knew that it was exactly that yardage.

I'll shoot out to 40yds at a "relaxed" deer. Hunt a lot of fields so long shots are possible.

Archery is seeing how far away you can hit the bullseye . Bowhunting is seeing how close you can get to it.
GREAT Answer....I hunt all kinds of terrain and still practice for out west. I shoot long distance because it makes a 40 yard shot seem like a gimme. If someone would dare tell you how far they kill deer every year with a bow it would be suicide on here.
My favorite shot is 18 yards quarting away but I will shoot out to where I feel I can make a ethical shoot.

40 yards majority of the time but always practice out to 60, cause what happens when that monster walks by at 50 or so an you got nothin for him?

Some may say pass, but in the heat of the moment and im confident all the way out to 50+ you better believe im flingin one

not me. no way would i risk injuring ANY deer by taking such a long shot. i can put arrows in a coke can size group all day at 60 yds. but WILL NOT shoot at a live target over 30-35. too much can happen.

Well heck I been doing it wrong.
I thought the point of bowhunting was to kill a deer.

:D

Just messin with ya dude. ;)

If I'm confident with everything going on I won't hesitate to shoot 60 yards. Every deer I killed last season with a bow was in-between 50 and 60; not a one went 50 yards after the shot. If someone can shoot that far and well and can read the animal good enough to know exactly what they going to do before the shot I think it's up to them. It's not a question of ethics in my book. If they are thinking in the back of their head I might wound this animal and still shoot then you have an ethics issue. I let a monster walk last year b/c he was just too nervous to even think about shooting 45 yards at him. It all relates to the situation; imo.
