You guys would have a fit if you followed the threads on other message forums by the antelope and mule deer bow hunters out west. They say a close chip shot for them is 40 and average is 50-55. Most of us just practice at 50 and wont shoot anything over 30. They practice at 80-100 with broadheads...and have groups like most of us at 40 with broadheads. They ain't no trees to climb in out there; just wide open spot and stalk country.
I can and have shot 1 gallon milk jugs at 130 yds with my bow before, but I'm not shooting at a deer at 130. My broadhead groups at 100 yds are about 8 inches with 6 arrows, but I'm not shooting at a deer at 100 either.
50 yards on in closer...it's dead.
60-70 I wont shoot at one under normal circumstances. Especially if its gonna come closer. But there is 1 condition and 1 condition only that I'll shoot at one this far and here it is: If I get one of those stupid nanny heads that busts me, and stands out there stomping and blowing/snorting at 60-70 yards and wont leave and wont shut up...SHE'S GETTING AN ARROW SLUNG AT HER!!! Now she may duck and be 10' away by the time it gets there but at least she'll be gone.
