I have no love for Tennessee but that was a great letter in response to the investigation. She sent that before the NCAA had contacted Tennessee. Sticking the her guns. I like it. I have no love for the NCAA either.
Bama has been screwed by them also.

She sent it Monday and to try and get the public on their side the NCAA let some of their media contacts leak it. Tn in return immediately released that latter to the public to see. The very next day they filed suit with Virginia against the NCAA. That suit has been in the works for weeks just waiting for the next time the NCAA tried to overreach. This was a planned tactical response and strike from UT. They are ahead of the NCAA on this. It's a 20 page suit that's gonna take almost all of the NCAA's teeth out of their bite concerning governing schools. It's most likely the end of the majority of their power and they did it to their selves

Yeah I know tons of high school seniors who rent private planes to go on recruiting visits. Totally common. If he cashed a check before he signs it's still a violation.

Not in the state of California. Same as high school athletes in Missouri are able to be paid before they enroll in college.

Under California law, he is fully able to sign a NIL agreement and cash as many checks as he gets. The issues surrounding the NIL has already made it to the US Supreme Court who sided against the NCAA in a 9-0 ruling.

I know this thread was meant to poke fun at UT, but from what I've read, most of college football is backing UT on this fight. NCAA poked the wrong bear time.

Well maybe maybe not. But where there is smoke there is usually fire.

With vols being on probation and now facing possible level 1 or 2 violations again. You gotta wonder if vols will play the same game as before. Remove themselves from the players, coaches and ADs that caused the infractions in order to avoid some sort of post season ban or realize their goose is cooked this time and just fight it head on and let the chips fall where they may?

Doubt the program can afford to lose another AD, head coach and a QB who seems to be at the head of all of this.

The statements and contract are made out to look like it's just a neutral NIL deal, when in fact Spyre is fully-coordinated with Tennessee football and the deal was absolutely contingent-in-fact on him attending Tennessee.
Just because you put magic words in a contract and say you're paying John Doe $7mil for his perceived success as a neutral entity, but not as a bribe, doesn't make it not a bribe.

Also, the NIL is not a means of inducement for a player to sign. If Spyre wasn't based in Knoxville and the gears behind the official UT collective this might be more believable. Come on though…..I stand firm in saying the NCAA is at fault for not having clear guidelines in place prior to opening Pandora's box but some schools took it a bit far and it all needs to be reigned in before it ruins college football anymore than it already has.

Notice you didn't reference the decades of Bama violations. It really must suck when the NIL levels the playing field with the cheaters.

I squirmed a little on the Gump deal last year because I knew we were in the wrong. I've talked to a couple of folks that have some ties to the inner circle and have zero worries about this round. I am pretty sure it will end up worse for the NCAA and not the Vols.
