Man, I know this is a TN based web forum full of UT fans, but the larger picture here is flying way over your head. Let's say the NCAA finds UT guilty…guess what happens next? They then have to find 10-15 other schools guilty as well because what UT did is happening at every big time college football school, whether the NCAA deems it legal or not. I missed all your posts on the FL thread and FSU thread…did you forget they are already being investigated for similar cases? There are really only 2 maybe 3 possible outcomes here. If UT loses, lots of schools lose. If UT wins, the NCAA is no longer relevant in major college football. The third option is the NCAA wising up and taking their ball back home in hopes that they are still allowed to govern college football. That'd be the wise thing for them to do.
They are suing the NCAA because they know they're in the right this time.

No they're not. They're suing to try and delay any consequences hoping they can stall it until the NCAA dissolves in order to try and win something of significance to restore relevance and preserve revenue. Follow the $$ my friend.

Actually @scn is 100% correct that Nico could cash all spyre checks he wanted being a ha kid in Cali. You said it was illegal and it's not. He's got full grasp on the rules in situation and he's correct that spyre's lawyer who is known for having beaten the NCAA on several other cases in the past did draft the contract and specifically put in there it did obligate Nico to sign with UT. It doesn't matter that spyre only has deals with UT players or is in Knoxville. It's the same thing bama's collective is doing. I think it's called yeabama or so thug like that. Same thing "the sprint" collective for ole miss is doing and every collective is doing for their schools. That's why all National guys are saying all the ohher gates should join this suit. It's not gonna dissolve the corrupt ncaa but it takes almost all their power to penalize players and schools away. They will be down to setting rules like the 85 scholarship limit per team. They will be a toothless organization. Also Fulmer didn't turn as much in on bama as spurrier and Florida did but their hate for UT and Fulmer beating them keeps them spinning that narrative. Multiple schools turned them in and they all gave the same info on them.
Because y'all have a collective too and it's not you this round but y'all will be next or soon. This stems from the ncaa saying you cannot discuss nil with a player until they've signed with a school because that is inducement to sign for that school. All schools are talking nil deals to recruits before they sign and it's well known. The NCAA is making and changing rules on the fly. What they are actually trying to stick UT with wasn't a spelled out rule which this alleged violation occurred. They are trying to retroactively apply a rule to them. They can easily do the same to any school. You've said one thing 100% correct so far. Follow the money…the NCAA wars their cut of this nil money and as of right now they get zero. That's what this is truly about.
