Hunting Opportunity's Decreasing Nation Wide

It's such a shame because Tennessee will slowly become like California, with everyone moving in here.
Just saw a Hollywood star (can't remember her name) talking about how she moved to Nashville after her Malibu house burned in a wildfire a few years ago. She said to expect a FLOOD of Hollywood types moving to TN after this southern CA wildfire.

Just great...

It's coming. Nashville is the new Hollywood.

Until recently, I honestly thought this kind of thinking was akin to conspiracy theory. Now, I'm not so sure about that! I'm leaning towards your way of thinking MidTennFisher.
Well if you take Tennessee, for example, think about how many people have moved there over the last 7 or so years. And we know that some percentage of those people hunt. So I'd argue that it is mathematically impossible that there are fewer hunters in Tennessee today than there were 7 years ago.

And I'd argue that for the entirety of the Southeast as it has seen such a population boom lately. South Carolina especially. I've lived here 5 years and I'm already the old guy saying "I remember when that was woods" because I swear every 6 months I see a new development popup. Some percentage of those newcomers are hunters, no doubt about it.

So for groups to try and aggressively recruit more turkey hunters in our areas and claim it's to "save hunting" because we're losing hunters, it's just ridiculous. Laughable, at best. Horribly dishonest just to make more money, at worst.

I think the usual recommendation holds here. If you want to evaluate the validity of claims, follow the money. If an organization is pushing something that is critical to their survival, be very wary of their claims. When an organization lives by hunter participation, and that organization keeps pushing for more hunters, be skeptical.

Hunting is getting insane on costs. I know of 200 acres in an East TN county that was recently leased by 3 guys from Knoxville for $30,000 per year. Just insane. I don't see it getting better.
I just seen a solid and fully outfitted whitetail hunt in Nebraska for $5500. Add on transportation and a tag and you are probably around $6500.
Those river bottom Nebraska private land hunts got to be super high in the success rates and I'd say your chance of killing a bigger deer there than Knoxville is exponentially better.

Why not go on a quality hunt then spend your time hitting up freebies closer to home? Reckon I look at it differently.

The west? If I were to move it would be somewhere close to the Mississippi river below Cairo, mountains are nice to look at but I wouldnt care at all to live there. I'm a flatlander river rat.
I have a brother that lives at 9,500 feet in the Rockies outside Denver (Conifer area). His last snow of the year will be around the 4th of July. The first snow of the new winter will be late August. Snow 12 months out of the year is not for me. Talked to him a few days ago and their high temperature was -7. No thank you. Beautiful territory, but I couldn't live with that.

I do like cold really cooler weather. That's really unimaginable to live in for someone that has lived hear their entire life.

I have neighbors that also live in Minnesota and they were shocked at how shallow we bury water lines. There's is a minimum of 5 feet deep. It's just so different really.

The north era I've talked are absolutely astounded by how cold our winters are they tell me. Said they moved south thinking they would have much milder winters. Each one has said they were told TN average winter temps were in the upper 40's to 50's. They thought it would only get below freezing every now and then. They also said Knowing what they know now they would've moved farther south. I told them i wish you would've done better research. They just smiled.

I haven't ran into many of them. More of they can't believe our humidity and heat for 3 or 4 months straight with minimal breaks.
