I don’t know if I can hunt turkeys anymore.

Three misses in a row going back to last season.

2 different guns/chokes.

I'm a wreck

You need an exorcism.

If the birds have been in easy killing range and in the open, my bet would be that you are raising your cheek off of the stock just prior to pulling the trigger.

If you have any old decoys (or new ones), it would be worth sacrificing one and doing a little target practice from various shooting positions and angles.

Also, just because one flies off, doesn't mean it was a clean miss.

Walk the direction it went and look in thick blowdowns, brier thickets etc. Have lucked up a couple of times and found dead/wounded birds trying to hide.

Stay at it. It'll bring a man down I know.

I agree. I'd be willing to bet there are very few clean misses with a shotgun unless very close range.

Many years ago ,when birds were everywhere ,I missed 3 in one day. I put a red dot scope on my gun. It was cheap only gave 20 bucks for it. It was the best thing i ever done. No matter where my head is on gun, or both eyes open or one eye closed, what ever... as long as dot is on bird ,he is dead.

Also I learned my gun hates #5 loads. I always bought 5 shot when I first started because most popular. On paper its the worst load for my gun. So you need to tinker with your set up do a little practice, hold the turkey fever down when making the shot.

If you haven't already put a red dot scope on your gun, best thing I ever did

Exorcism or therapy whatever you call it these days?

Actually they have all been tougher shots.

1. Was in tight cover might have hit a limb?
2. Trying to complete a double and 2nd bird was scooting away.
3. Today about 55 yards birds turned back last second... I panicked I guess.

I was shooting my Benelli duck gun because I was having problems getting a good pattern with my 835.

I will probably have a new setup by the morning no expense spared.

This is the worst drought of my turkey career..

Yeah been there did the same thing with my 835. I think I missed five birds in one season and still managed 3. I put a red dot on it and killed the first bird stone dead but I can't get it to give a consistent pattern before season?

I know I'm a pretty good shot I never missed for the first 4-5 years when I started hunting...

Maybe it's the dot? Either way vortex venom coming soon...

Eotech. Put head in circle. Pull trigger. Bird dead. Every time. I can't remember the last turkey I missed.

Even though I think I might be able to accomplish the same thing with the cheaper vortex venom.

Get a red dot. I use a Fastfire, but the Vortex is fine too.

Bass pro has an SXP on sale for $399. I'll probably have it or an 870 tonight. I'm thinking Indian creek choke.

It sounds like you took at least two, and maybe 3 iffy shots, and didn't get lucky. Shooting "scooting" turkeys are never a given, and birds at 55 yds are a stretch as well. Sometimes the best shot is not even pulling the trigger.

Some type of optical sight will help more than you know. Good luck on your next one!

True not ideal shots. That scooting bird was actually inside of his buddy that just dropped in his tracks with TSS #9. I haven't used it yet because I haven't patterned it but boy due I regret it now...
