Time to start checking the river every couple days anticipating "the run"
They are buffaloare those buffalo, redhorse, or ???
Good old days-fishing the fish traps.used to catch those things up over 10 lb as fast as you could throw a small white grub into the white water on the Holston at Rogersville. TVA put a stop to that, now the lake covers those rapids LONG before the water gets to the right temps. ruined wading the river for walleye too. does EVERYWHERE have to be good for boats? seriously? the areas i used to wear walleye out wading have boats trolling there BEFORE turkey season even opens. they used to keep it low enough for the fish to spawn before filling the dang lake up all the way to the steamplant.![]()
Yes they were. I'm "assuming" that was a false run. Sometimes the males will make a run but the females aren't there yet, then a few weeks later, the main run will happen. Happened on the Hiawassee as well but nowhere near the numbers of fish that there should be at either location. At least that's what I'm hoping. I'm not a fisheries biologist to say the least. They were catching them pretty heavy on Citico a couple weeks ago.
I still fish over that way. But places to park and wade lots of them have house or a subdivision built there now. And it seems either the water is to low or quickly to high.Good old days-fishing the fish traps.
Melinda Ferry, then Robinson Creek, then below Hugh B.Day bridge .. Not been down there in years..
You talking bout the blowed out bridge ?my favorite place is the rip-rap crossing the river from below the boat ramp to thre old mill dam, at the "bridge that aint". and they haven't lowered the water far enough in years to even fish the flats between Cloud & Caney Creeks.![]()

standing on the wall and swinging sassy shads etc right into the white water has got to be the best way to have your lunch eaten by something big, lol. lost the biggest largemouth i ever hooked there, as well as landed my biggest smallmouth by a long shot. wish i had kept her for weighing. we measured her & put her back in. a bit over 25"... caught her fishing for rock. You talking bout the blowed out bridge ?
I will say this tho—my all time favorite place there is being on the wall at the dam fishing the spillway.. Unless some idiot in a boat comes up or ties off at the gates and Fs everything up..![]()
