Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

Late again GnB. Posted this link last night.

What do you mean "if" the gators did something like this? You dont honestly beleive that they have never turned a commit down or dropped one do you?

Well I guess right now they wouldnt.

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

Actually, all of the "top" schools do it when necessary.

As most of us have already posted, it isn't pretty but has to be done on occasion to fill needs. Like the link says he was told about the reasons with a little time left so another school just got a gift. It's interesting that he doesn't have an offer from UF or FSU. though. I bet that changes now :D !

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

Have you ever tournement fished? You keep everything until the limit is full, then you start culling until you have the ones you want.

You gotta know this is the way things are done. It may not be right to me or you but do you honestly think Saban or Meyer or Miles or Richt or Malzahn dont do this as too?

College football is a business and sometimes its just business.

Keep twisting. :pop: :pop:

Those poor culled fish :D !

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

It happens all the time in college football. Tennessee is looking to sign another top OT and with already so much Talent on the D-Line I would gladly take a OT over a DE who might not even see playing time. This is NO big deal at all :tu:

Actually, coach Richt refuses to do this unless it is for code of conduct or eligibility, or unless he lets the recruit know ahead of time that he has offered "x" number of scholarships on a first-come first-serve basis. He believes that if an offer is made, it should be commitable and that the school should not be able to pull the offer if the recruit keeps up with their end of the bargain, not if a bigger fish comes along...

Exactly.... And if it was one of ya'll kids that got done this way, you would be crying and bad mouthing the program. This isn't fishing.... :tu:

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

It sucks and I'd be pissed if it was me or my kid that it happened to but its a 2-way street and players decommit all the time. Not saying its right but its the world we live in. Being a highly touted 4-star I'd say his phone was ringing off the hook when news first hit the wire and I hope the best for him.

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

He ,like everyone says it happens sometime he will have no trouble getting picked by another top team. When you have needs elsewhere, namely offensive lineman, you shop around.I believe Tennessee will pick up another lineman before sighning day

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

I would be mad also if it was my kid, But it happens all around CBJ was not the first to ever do this lol and I promise he won't be the last. I don't like the coaches being able to do this.
But I also don't like kids saying there all about a school stay committed for Half a year then all a sudden change there mind It is what it is I guess.

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

Its big boy football GnB. Does that sound familiar to you? Im pretty sure Ive heard you say that more than once. It does happen, it will happen and it will continue to happen. Is it questionable? Yes. Do you really want to get all sentimental over a kid that has offers from other top schools besides TN? He will get in somewhere on a free ride. Its not like hes gonna miss out on college and football altogether.

Reality is, you dont really care if he gets a free ride at TN or not. Your just using it as a jab to CBJ and the Vols. :tu: :tu:

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

I think rules should change, instead of commiting sign on dotted line and a lot of this garbage would stop

I agree. Just because another kid is willing to waffle on his commitment doesn't mean that all kids are. Coaches change programs at the drop of a hat with no restrictions, but once a kid signs he has restrictions. This kid committed a long time ago and now has to scramble with only 2 weeks left in the recruiting period. That doesn't leave much time for other visits. This is one of the reasons that I am a DAWGS fan: the respectable way that Richt runs the program, even if he is not the best x's and o's coach.

Having an early signing period that locks both the recruit and the school in would be beneficial for this. I don't fault a 16-18 year old kid for flipping... It's a big commitment, and they get fed a bunch of high pressure bull during the recruiting process. How many jobs did I work when I was a 16-18 year old kid? I could start a new job, then switch to better option a few weeks later, but a kid is locked in to a large extent when he signs.

Gator has so little to jab at Tennessee,he has to use what little he can, needs to worry about that killer job that McELwain is doing in the recruiting world at Florida.Ole gator better hope he is a better coach than a recruiter. :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

Yep. That's why he started a new thread on the same topic instead of continuing the other one.

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

It is pretty simple. When you recruit, you recruit to more kids than you have scholarships for because they all are not going to come to your school. Sometimes more of the recruits want to come than you have spots for. It happens all the time when programs are succeeding. Florida has had the problem In the past and will again eventually when they get on thier feet.

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

It's interesting that he committed to Rutgers yesterday. I guess the gators couldn't use a 4 star local boy.
