It's interesting that he committed to Rutgers yesterday. I guess the gators couldn't use a 4 star local boy.
I know its late but that shocked me when I read about it. Can't believe there are not bigger schools that could use a 4 star DE.

It is pretty simple. When you recruit, you recruit to more kids than you have scholarships for because they all are not going to come to your school. Sometimes more of the recruits want to come than you have spots for. It happens all the time when programs are succeeding. Florida has had the problem In the past and will again eventually when they get on thier feet.

But the moral and ethical thing to do would be to honor the commitments that you have accepted, not cut one that is in the fold when a better one comes along.

Offer a bunch, but when you are full cut off any new commitments unless someone decommits

Lots of classes are full by now, especially with such a rich DE recruiting class

he was mad about CBJ pulling is offer and that he wanted to play for UT, But alot of people are saying Rutgers is a better school for him with the classes he wanted to take and with the play on the field he will get. It should all work out for him.

Happens in more sports than just football. I know one softball player who got the same call a couple of weeks ago from a different SEC school.

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

Happens at all schools. Supporters of the school will make all kind of excuses why its OK like he couldn't compete, knew he wouldn't see playing time, better fit elsewhere etc...while rivals will chastise.

Should make you wonder why only Miami offered out of the big schools in FL.

Guess the gators knew they had no chance at him

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

"East Bay High School defensive end Marques Ford was going about his day Jan. 20 when he received a phone call around 6 p.m. from the University of Tennessee's defensive line coach, Steve Stripling.

Ford, a four-star recruit and Under Armour All-American, had committed in July to play football for the Volunteers, picking them over the 40 other Division I-A offers received.

Stripling called that day, though, to inform Ford he would no longer be going to Tennessee. His spot had been taken, Ford said Stripling told him, so they had to let him go. Ford sat, stunned, on the other end of the phone.

"I didn't know how to take it. I was kind of silent at first," Ford said. "I was upset. I was committed to them for six months."

"Ford might not have known how to respond to Stripling's news, but East Bay coach Frank LaRosa wasn't so unsure. He was angry.

As far as the four-year head coach was concerned, Ford was the total package. He racked up 175 tackles and 17 sacks while at East Bay, and his 6-foot-4, 230-pound frame made him a force on the football field. His success also carries over into the classroom, where Ford boasts a 4.3 weighted grade-point average." :pop:

He has already committed to Rutgers I think. The gators would have loved to have picked him up but they cant even get UT seconds this year. :D

GnB didnt really care if he got a scholly and played at TN or not. Hes just trying to rub it in.

Nope... Neither FSU or FL recruited him before or after TN dropped him. Tn was competing with Rutgers the whole time and that's not a surprise.... :tu:

Re: "It's an ugly business" Looks like CBJ is making friend

UF dont need any 4* defensive ends.

OK :tu:

All joking aside, they don't. FL has good depth at DE and the recruits that they have committed at DE, FL plans to convert them to DT. Also FL is holding out for Cowart and Jefferson. This class FL just needs to just feels some needs and is probably best that they sign a small class so the new coaches can fill the 2016 class with players that fit their system.

All joking aside, what side of the ball has been the downfall of the gators the last two years?

If you say offense, I would say you are correct.

How is possibly landing 3 big fish on defense going to help that situation

Inquiring minds would like to know.
