Understood, and that's why my turkey "optics" are relatively small compared to what most people use. Personally, I do not like the type "red dot" scopes that are very popular.Fleet Fox":pntbdxrr said:But then you're using a shotgun with a scope, and something just doesn't feel natural about that.

If you have an aversion to a "scope", try a Burris FastFire (which is one of the optical sights I have on one turkey gun). It's tiny, feels very "natural" ---- just much less likely to miss while using it.
I have a more "traditional" scope on another turkey gun, but it is also very small as scopes go, having only a 20mm objective, and 1.5x magnification. IMO, the mistake most people make with traditional shotgun scopes is opting for too much magnification and a larger objective (such as 32mm to 40mm).
That said, we're not using these dedicated turkey shotguns for wingshooting flushed quail. In our turkey hunting, we may be using our shotguns more like a rifle than a shotgun?
Seriously, if one shotgun for everything, I'd put a Burris Fastfire on it. You'll hit more doves with it, and it feels "natural".Fleet Fox":3uklm7vs said:I don't have enough money to spend on several different shotguns, so my turkey gun is my everything with wings gun.

The fastfire is sounding nicer every day, but there's a good list of things over 100 bucks that I want to buy for hunting and fishing, so I can't just save up and buy a Burris this year.
I may try the longbeards and I may like them better. But if I am pulling shots then I don't see how a tighter pattern will help me to not miss. I rush too many shots and won't deny it, the fever gets to me. I could feel the shakes just walking up the hill while sneaking on that bird today, I knew I had to set my gun against a sapling because I couldn't hold it steady. The bird I missed yesterday was a freehand shot, a big mistake I made because he was looking in my direction and I was afraid to reposition so I could get the gun on my knee. Man the turkey fever is one of the main reasons I hunt but it also kills more hunts than it should. Suppose I got to keep shooting at em until I mellow out a bit. Thanks again FF that was a great hunt today, I hope you find that old boss I missed and put him to sleep.

thanks. I wish I had take your offer to borrow the scoped gun, but never had the time to pick it up. Between two jobs and turkeys I haven't got enough sleep latelyscn":3jb0dcli said:Congratulations on the turkey, and hang in there. The adrenalin will lessen a little at some point.
