Land improvement

Some good recommendations already. Agree, get with the USDA office and look at the NRCS opportunities. In 2019 we were approved for funding to cover hack-n-squirt cost and was able to contract it out. We are now very interested in developing burn units so we can rotate and burn different areas each year or two. I too would be careful hindge cutting because if the tree survives then in future years you will have a canopy that is horizontal creating a larger shaded area which is defeating the purpose. I would rather girdle or cut undesirable trees then when the time is right run prescribed fire through the area. You can generate more tons of forage per acre than you ever will with a food plot...and I love food plots but we should consider them supplemental to our native forage management.
