Live from the stand 2023

Had one blow very close about a half hour after sunrise. Two squirrels and that's it so far. Good luck yawl.

Saw this on stand Saturday morning. I couldn't get a pic of the hawk. He didn't stick around long enough. How many hunters out there spend time identifying birds they've not seen in the past?

I use an app out of Cornell University called Merlin. It's free if anyone wants to use it.
Merlin is great. I haven't been much of a bird watcher before, but Merlin makes it interesting. This was a pretty active 4 minutes at my place.

I've identified a few birds I had no clue as to what they were using Merlin. If it hadn't been for the sound I wouldn't have identified that hawk. Only saw him from the back. But he was calling and that's how I tagged him. It sure makes it interesting when nothing is moving in the woods.

Great morning to be out. Currently fog blocking out the sun keeping the temperature down. Hunting near a hot feed fed tree.

Yep, love the app. For those that haven't tried it, TRY IT! Its free and a lot of fun. Another free app is SEEK by iNaturalist where you can identify plants and insects.

It's a cool app for sure.

First sit of the season today. Thank you Lord. I came to clean and spray the shooting house for juvi tomorrow. Got my summit stand and bow with me if I got time. It's raining acorns here in Maury where I hunt. I set up everything and was ready to climb - can't open my harness' carabiner. That's fine I thought, if I can put it in lifeline's carabiner - it was open but too tight and won't close. 🤦🏽‍♂️. Didn't take any chance. Left the climber on the tree and Went back to the shooting house and sitting in here…No squirrels today.

Looks like permethrin will kill many bugs but not roaches. I will likely hear screams from the shooting house tomorrow. 😂..

Urbanization has caught up here. Very few trees/woods left and they will be gone next year. 😔

First sit of the year with my son. Once he got to hunting age I made a rule on my property that no one hunts before juvenile. Once it's over I let a few guys from work hunt. If I never kill another one that ok. It's all about them now.

I'm impressed dad. Crossword puzzle instead of electronics.
He has zero electronics or gaming systems. If he needs to get on a computer for school then he uses our laptop. He has a 4 wheeler, dirtbike, bicycle, scooters of all kinds, BB guns, and the lists goes on but no electronics.
