Me and a buddy were talking, since the state has a kill them all approach to cwd do you think the statewide TN season is fixing to get longer with extremely liberal limits? His buddy is a wildlife officer in another county and is absolutely convinced it's coming. I'm not really a fan of this at all.

The problem biologically with extending the season well past 2nd rut is the negative effect it has on the deer you DONT kill in addition to the ones you kill. Extended hunting pressure keeps feeding deer nocturnal, limiting when they can take in calories... all at the same time when temps are coldest and the least food is available. Not good for the standing herd. Now I wouldn't be opposed to a couple 'weekend only' hunts till end of January in TN that are buck only. I wouldn't participate, but I wouldn't be opposed to it

Look if they make season longer don't hunt it really not going to affect anything much. The disease will kill more than hunting. It's not like cwd turns every person into a killing machine??? Everyone will kill about the same each season. Crap I ll bet even with the kill them all mentally there going be just as many people that can't or won't kill anything.don't get your panties in a wad . Maybe the few deer that get shot in January save 1000 in the future??? I'm not a big fan of TWRA on some things like the August hunt the early bow season start date ect ect . And yes I'm a bow hunting person. I do know this I know just enough about cwd to be considered dangerous and ignorant about it. Let them figure out something who knows they might save are deer hunting

I totally agree with this.

Disagree, and "post season" idea is totally negated by what was said immediately prior.

I'm afraid the CWD "issues" in deer are being exploited
in much the same way others are exploiting COVID "issues" in humans???

You already can get a permit in the CWD zone, if you are within 3 miles of a CWD positive deer, you can keep after them until March 15(I think that is the right date)

I'm not entirely opposed to it. For me it would depend on the regulations that accompany the extended season. If it was sensible I could get behind it. If it's purpose is to blindly exterminate as many deer as possible then no, I'm not for it. I'll wait to hear the proposal details before deciding how I feel.

I hope not, the season is long enough already. No need to lengthen it. Whether they will or not, who knows, I believe the game commission not twra will make that call.
I hope it's just talk, I hate to think that this is really being considered.

Deer seasons are extended in surrounding states like Mississippi. Once the game commission reviews the lower than last year harvests, they may extend the seasons to get a few more deer killed. Deer are starting to group back up and coming to open areas to feed in January. Deer don't need the stress that hunting pressure puts on them but it maybe either extend the season or issue summertime depredation permits. One way or the other, a certain number of deer must be killed.

I would be ok with it if bucks were protected from harvest

Flawed logic that killing a few saves thousands.

I live and do my majority of whitetail hunting in Unit L. I've got plans on building another smokeless muzzloader. I've debated whether to go ahead or not after seeing the changes in regulations in west TN. I for one would not like to see the season extended. Just like what was stated above, the amount of pressure the existing herd deals with towards the middle/end of the season really takes a toll.

Never understood the logic behind the mass killing of deer to save deer from a disease that can may kill deer….and in the process destroy the hunting in that area and run off the very people who fund the organization making said decision
This is EXACTLY my problem with the CWD regulations so many states are implementing. The "answer" to the CWD problem will come from Nature, not from Man's management practices.
