Loop knots

not sure of the name, just make a half hitch in the line to make the loop, then pass the end of the line through the eye, back up to the loop, then go around the loop 3x and cinch down. The knot itself isn't failing at all, it ends up failing eventually at the back of the loop where the line goes through the eye.

Main concern isn't with my jigs... those are cheap. But fishing topwater with $12 skitter walks HURTS if the loop breaks!

Are you going back into the half hitch the SAME way the terminal end came OUT…… critical to elevating failure in that knot. . Hope this made sense.

BTW, never broken a loop knot on a fish….. oyster yes, fish no.

And sure, I could just prophylactically retie every couple of hours. But that ain't happening unless the leader gets frayed.

i hate losing big fish a LOT more than i hate tying knots.

But it turns out it was my leader material that had become brittle. It's a spool of regular flouro line (not designated 'leader') i had been pulling off 5ft sections to add to end of braid periodically. Yozuri brand, was bought only 2y ago. Kept in side pouch of tackle bag, maybe exposed to too much sun during fishing trips, I dunno

I have no idea, other than regular flouro line is WAY cheaper on a big spool compared to flouro leader on a 25yd spool. Not sure if the leader flouro has more abrasions resistance.

Maybe someone on this forum knows if they are the same or not, and whether I should be spending the big bucks for designated leader
