Lots of new Guys on here new to hunting.

Don't get married during deer season, plan kids births around deer season, don't get puppies before deer season, design your company around deer season, don't take on new jobs in deer season, tell everyone you don't exist during deer season, learn the words "no", "nope", "not gonna happen", "that's hilarious, it's deer season".

All of these tips will make you a more successful and happy deer hunter.
 
1. Outfit yourself with the highest QUALITY clothing you can. Not necessarily the most expensive and not what's trendy. Think quality wool, wool socks, hats and the best rain gear you can get. If you're not warm and dry you won't be successful and hunting will be miserable.

2. Your best time to scout is the dead of winter after the season to get ready for next season. Trails, terrain features and everything else is so much easier to see. Find and mark your oaks. Then when archery opens you go back and find the ones being used. Early season hunt food. Acorns are king.

3. When hunting alone always make sure people know exactly where you are and when you will be back. I have a policy of marking exactly where I am on Google maps on my phone BEFORE I climb up and immediately texting to my wife.

4. Always wear a safety harness. There are people that love you and want to see you come home in one piece.

You forgot to add marry a woman whose parents own a few thousand acres of unhunted land that you'll have all to yourself.

I have always hunted public land. If you hunt it, just be courteous to the other hunters you meet. Ask questions about them, if they are new offer a little advice here and there. Next thing you know, you will be that mentor. Personally, I have found it works both ways. That's how I've gotten to where I am, and still learn every year. We are all in this together and need to stick together to keep our sport alive and well.

You Guys Honestly seem Scared of technology. With new age tech you can do scouting from your couch.... Some of you all seem pretty Ignorant if you ask me.

There is no way you can E-scout with the same effectiveness as boots on ground. I learned this my first time scouting public land. Things look different on the ground even if you're good at reading a topo map. Calling people ignorant like you are is pretty ignorant in itself.

So the guy joins just a few days ago, starts this thread on Monday "looking for help" and is given alot of good advice and answers to his questions; has never hunted deer before. Now he comes in calling people hicks and ignorant, and telling experienced hunters what works.

He's a troll, jerk or both; ban him

I am glad to know I am a Hick :) I guess I am a real life Jethro Bodine per this dude. Just trying to help people like you @GHOST95, BUT its people like you who cause these great older guys not to share what they know.... would would they want to help someone acting like that..... Oh well, I have said enough. I appreciate your kind words Sir and hope you stub your big toe.
