I scored the biggest deer that I've ever had my hands on last night. I won't post the kill pic or the county due to respect for the hunter. I will just say it was killed by a humble young man that works hard to provide for his family. He had no idea how big the deer was. He handed it to me, and I asked him to guess the score. He said I don't know, 140? I told him it's way bigger than that and I had a 10 point with a similar frame that scored nearly 150 and definitely bigger. We compared them later and made my deer look like a baby. Kinda hurt my feelings…..lol.
My guess was 165, and my son guessed 169. My cousin guessed 170 from the pics. I measured its left side, and my son added them up to 74 and change. I knew it had over a 20" spread. I looked at him, and said this deer is gonna score 170". It has nearly 26" main beams and over 22" inside. It has good mass and good tine length. Its G4s were longer than its G2s.
He ended up at 172 5/8 gross and 169 net. I used to think 170 was minimum B&C, but that is for the all time record book while 160 gets the award book. I'm curious to see what it does if he decides to get it officially scored after the drying period.
I also aged him at 5.5.
Thought I would share such a magnificent buck and blown away on how big he actually is.
