Thanks again TurkeyBurd for taking me out to a spot where I could shoot. Bruised up my shoulder with a few of the Win. Supreme 3" #5 shot. Shots were around 20 yards.

First was low left

Still low and left, but he's dead

A little left still...

So I got to aim a hair to the right of his head... what do you all say for this pattern at 20 yards? Looks pretty tight, the choke is xx-full not sure what choke it is but fits my NEF and it's gonna be my turkey killer this spring.

And what did shooting at 20yds prove?

I guess I don't see what was gained from it. Wasted shells is all I see.

I know I need to shoot higher and to the right of what I tend to shoot, we didn't set up any farther but I could always do that if I really want to. I'd like to take a turkey at 20 yards anyway.

Easy killer.... this is a young feller just getting into turkey hunting.... not an old pro on old gobbler.... don't scare him off too soon.

Catman, you may get lucky and get one in to 20 yards.... I would go atleast 30 yards and then shoot to 40 yards to see what it does. Different chokes and loads will shoot different.... Such as the shell and choke you are shooting now shoots the way it does.... by trying something else, your POA/POI might be dead on..... if you are going to keep your shots within 40 yards, you might try #6 shot.... more pellets on target.

Burd suggested the distance, which I was OK with, and didn't bother to take it out farther, so if I get the chance I will try farther but would rather save my loads for turkey season at this point. Thanks for the suggestion for 6 shot, I may have to buy a box of that as well.

not trying to be like some but you need to practice more.don't say aim to the right shoot some more if you have the money and get it closer if not you are going to be mad when you finally call in that bird and miss at 30 or longer because you didn't.or call them in close and you will be fine.

Not trying to be rude, but you need to back off at 40yds and see what is going on. And you also need to shoot a way bigger piece of paper or cardboard. That way you know what is going on with your load and choke. 20yds really doesn't prove much.

Looks like you are getting there. :D

You might try another shell and your point of impact might move a little.

Good luck !

Thanks all, and yeah I can probably trust burd's wisdom since he's killed 300, I'd like to know what my gun patterns like at 40 yards but only if I really feel like going out and using a couple more of the expensive loads.... either way I'm going to pick up a box of the #5 and #6 if I can find both, and I picked up a flyer at walmart that I can mail in to get a decent looking multi tool if I buy 2 boxes of the win. supreme. So I thought what the heck, I am already planning on using that ammo so why not buy two boxes and get a free tool, as long as they aren't going to send junk mail...

Well, it did prove how easy it would be too miss a turkey up close with a tight choked gun and bead sights. :)

In my humble opinion, it will be hard to remember where to move your aim at the moment of truth. Most shotguns, like yours, don't shoot exactly where you point them. That is why most turkey hunters that shoot tight chokes and patterns use some sort of adjustable sight or scope.
x 2.

And as we get older, most of us find the optical advantage of a scope to be better than adjustable sights.

IMO it would do you good to try a few other shells and see if the POA is off on them as well or if it is in fact the ammo. I have had issues with POA in certain shells but other ammo seemed to fix the issue. I shoot just a bead and I assure you in the moment you are not going to remember to aim RIGHT....also how far are you going to aim if he is 30yds out or 10 yds at that matter. the pattern itself is not bad but you need to figure something out on the POA weather that is a different optic site or different ammo.

I had a problem with my latest gun not hitting where it was aimed. I ran out of adjustment on the sights and it was still off. I bought some new Truglo on ebay for like $18 after shipping. It fixed the problem fine. If any way possible I would get something that would get the pattern hitting where you aimed. I know people are different but it would drive me crazy having to worry about having to hold off to hit the bird.
