New to the states and hunting

Hi all,


Thank you for wecloming me to the forum.
I just moved here from Scotland to work at UT.
I've never really hunted before, recently got a Henry .22 and headed out for some squirrels at Tellico Lake with little sucess.
If anyone would like some company and to take a newbie under their wing I'd be interested in all types of hunting.

Squirrels are denned up tight right now and not very active. February is by far the toughest month to hunt them. Population is at its lowest level all year as well but litters will be dropping very soon. I usually hang it up on squirrels by mid January since I don't have a dog.

Take the next few months to learn the regulations and biology of the game you plan to chase and you'll be ready.

Thank you for the advice, I was wondering why every video I watched the guys came across 10+ squirrels. I went out on Sunday and I saw one, then started stalking very carefully down the road and snuk up on another. He was within 10 yards, I don't think he even realised I was there. But my scope is sighted in at 25 yards so I think I shot low when I aimed at him. (lesson learnt)

I figured I was catching them in transit, between food and their den, and if I could just figure out where they are eating I would stand a better chance and they would stop more often and less moving around.

But that's good to know, maybe I'll just try and learn the area better for spring season. I'm also keen to try rabbit, turkey and whatever else. I just figured squirrel would be a good starting point.
