Got a new toy. Been wanting one of these for years. Backwoods G2 Party with double-latch. Will make for some greatbackyard smoking and give us a little extra capacity for the BBQ contest. Backwoods customer service was top notch.

Not gravity. Charcoal is in a firebox in the bottom, above a water pan. I'd guess 65 percent of the cookers at Memphis in May are backwoods smokers. This weighs 270 lbs and is just a medium sized one.
Oh nice, how often have to reload the charcoal? Is the water pan essential to the results, in your opinion? Ive looked at those stubbs gravity fed cookers several times. Do you know if those are used much in the comps?

The other smoker we have, a backwoods fatboy, will hold temp for 16 or more hrs without loading charcoal but I think we have to add water. Some have adapters to add a water tank to load via gravity. Its a little bit heavier. This one doesn't have the ability to add water via that method.

Did you mean a Stumps? I've heard of and seen a Stumps smoker but don't know anyone that has one. They, along with other smokers, are built like the Backwoods. There are some good youtube videos that do in depth comparisons on smokers of this type. I don't think the Stubbs is covered in this one.
