I'm looking at this battery to use strictly on my trolling motor (not cranking):

OPTIMA BlueTop AGM Spiralcell Marine Battery, Group Size 31

Even though it is not labeled "deep cycle," is it suitable to be used as if it is? The info I've seen gives the impression that it is. Or is that just simply a feature of AGM batteries and I'm over thinking this?

Optimas are excellent batteries if you need tractor weights or something like that.

Optima batteries as batteries are yugo. I wouldn't take one if you gave it to me.

Can you offer some insight? I fished with a guy yesterday that used an Optima to drive his trolling motor. After a day's use his battery checker had dropped only one light. He says he has had a good experience with Optimas. I really don't know and would like to hear if they are problematic.

That's just what I found in about 2 minutes of searching. Plenty more out there.

I was considering going to Optimas a year or 2 ago. I discovered the same thing. People say the old ones were incredible, but the new ones are garbage.

My first three batteries were Optima Blue Tops. I replaced them after 12 years. By the way they were still working. I replaced with same. They are now three years old and the cranking battery drops to 11.9 volts pretty quick. I run two Humminbird Helix 10. I will not buy another Optima. I'm considering Northstar X2. CCA 1150; MCA 1370; and RC 220. They are expensive...however, they have a four year warranty.

I recently bought a pair of yellow-top 31's. They have a 3-Year Full Replacement Warranty. So check with me in three years and I'll tell you if it was worth it.
