But, have never turkey hunted before. I will be taking my 12ga with full choke, and blind. Should I go scout an area before I go? If so, what kinds of things to I look for with turkey? If I happen to bag one, are the check in procedures the same as with deer? Any info would be great for this newb. I think I already have a county picked out...just gotta figure out where.

I dont have any land, but I am thinking about heading up to the Greene county area because I have heard that area is pretty swamped with turkey.

Greene county has a 3 bird limit (either sex). I wouldn't be sitting in a blind unless I knew turkeys frequent that area. I will most likely be looking around to spot a flock and then sneak in for an ambush.

so what kind of area do you look in? I saw that there are a couple public places in that area.

You better make sure the public places are open with the state season. I don't know of any that are around here.

Yanahli and eagle creek are and laurel hill has there own hunt sometime in december

Yes I know, but I don't think for instance that laurel hill is open to 6 birds either sex like Lawrence county is either. WMA's have special hunts most of the time and are not open like the rest of the private land in the state. I haven't checked the new regs, but I know it used to be this way.

well the weekend is drawing more near. I need some ideas of maybe where I could go with my shotgun this weekend on the east side of TN not too far from Knoxville and maybe have a good shot at seeing a bird.

I knew it was in the spring, just didn't think they would allow people to come in and kill 6 hens each off of it int he fall. I have a spot on there that is almost guaranteed for a bird. Might have to check it out and try to smoke a few off of it too.
