I know that in today's environment the best powder is simply the one that you can get your hands on. But with that said, I'm new to reloading and looking for a good powder to load both 223 and 308. I will definitely test loads for accuracy, but will mainly reload for quantity. What powder would you suggest?

Shooters World Tactical Rifle

In our 223 rifles it produces slightly better accuracy at slightly less velocity than H335. It is (or was) about $7.00 a pound less expensive than H335 and it was available.

This powder is also used in .308 loadings but I believe it tops out around 150 grain bullets...need to verify

As you already stated, availability will be your limitation, so I would look online at articles that rate the top powders and see what is available. Find a decent available powder, Accurate, Vihtavuori, or Lovex powder seem to remain available, and develop your best load with your selection.

Best 223 Powder for Reloaders

? What's the deal with Varget?, seems to do well in my 223s and 308s, heck they have loads for many calibers with Varget.
i have better luck with re 15 in 308

varget in 223 is plenty accurate low es and sd just not the speed i am looking for

every one loves it though

i did have a good load in 30/30 and 125 nbt with it ... killed @ 279 yards

You graduated that 8 year course of how not to be caught with your pants down as well didn't you Dave? 😏
I graduated class of '08. Could not get 215M primers.

I had night sweats

Argued with a ketchup bottle

When the shelves finally got stocked I took great care to insure I would never ever be caught like that again.

With what is happening in Ukraine I imagine a lot of shooters are going to stock up and those who don't know a grain from a box of oatmeal will start loading their own.

Can you imagine having a cop hand out a rifle to you and two boxes of ammo to fight an infantry unit? Even if that unit is composed of drafted sub-20's kids texting their girlfriends and posting on tikkidockie or whatever. They got ammo and a selector switch.

I will say this.......I bet a ballistic tip at 3000 to 3300 FPS will put that soldier out of commission and I would aim for arms or faces or feets. I doan care too very much about FMJ's at that point.

Love Varget and Tac for the .223
As for stocking up, I am in really good shape for the primers I use most of, but failed to put back enough small pistol magnum primers so have had to change up my preferred 2400/158 jhc/357 magnum loads to standard primer loads with a bit faster burning powder.

We all do what we have to do to keep shooting.

My contribution for the day is a discovery that I made. I was digging around looking for a set or Warne scope rings that the loss gremlins appear to have made off with. During my search I moved a gallon ziplock bag that has several boxes of Federal LR and SR primers in it. And then I saw it. One of the boxes has dumped it's contents into the bag. AAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!! I just put it back without closer examination. 50/50 chance of it only being one size that got dumped. My next adventure will be to make sure any bagged primers are ALL the same brand and same size. UUGGGHHH!!!!

So what's your powder recommendation? 😆
