It's getting mighty close to the season to be putting corn out. You know it has to be ALL GONE 10 days before any hunting is legal.
Mighty close...10 days is 10 days...

Just joking make sure they gobble it up...Good luck

Please quote the post where Spit said he would be hunting over corn.

My old eyes can't find it.

Oldhunter, I don't know if your question was directed at me or not, but the Youth hunt begins on March 21. That means all bait must be gone by Wed. 11th for a youth to be able to legally hunt. Just 7 days from now.

Don't know where the corn was placed or when the area will be hunted, but we certainly don't want someone to unintentionally get into trouble due to someone not thinking ahead.

The season is getting close - just a caution.

Good hunting.

Good points, InfoMan.

A few years ago I purchased some certified aflatoxin-free corn from the county Co-Op. I put it out post-deer season as a "supplement" mainly for the deer, but also for the turkey. I later found out it had developed aflatoxin, and killed virtually all the turkeys that used the area. That was several years ago, and the turkey population still hasn't recovered in that area to what it had been prior to the big kill-off from corn gone bad.

At the time, I had no idea it was the corn that had killed the turkeys, just that went from having huge flocks to finding some dead birds, and no living birds a few weeks later. Have since learned this was a classic case of aflatoxin developing and killing all the birds that ate it.

You could go years without a problem, then have a single episode that adversely effects your turkey population for years. For me, it is no longer worth the risk to supplementally feed corn. Not to mention, that risk also includes the possibility of not being able to remove all the corn prior to otherwise legally hunting the area.

Itll be gone! You guys are amazing! Its totally legal to feed corn 26 days before the season starts! The deer and turkeys around here can clean up 50 pounds in about 3 days! Captain Hook what business is it of yours? Ill bet ya 1000$ I can put out 200lbs tomorrow and every kernel will be gone in 7 days! Ill pay you 100$ for every kernel you can find!

I am in on that bet.

My question wasn't directed at you InfoMan. I never considered the youth hunt.
Thanks
