Road maintenance

Hoopers...ugh. This crew will flat leave your place a MESS and are well known (in a very bad way) in my area. He called me looking for timber some years ago. I promptly saved his number in my phone "Hooper logger avoid like plague."
I don't mind the cut areas looking like a mess. In fact, that's exactly what I wanted - a jungle mess. But the destroyed roads; that's another matter. If they had had a competent bulldozer operator who knew how to properly fix roads, we would have been good. But that wasn't the case.

All the mess of downed tops on the ground in the below picture - no problem. That will grow back into prime deer habitat.

I looked at a piece of ground they clearcut and was up for sale; they absolutely checked every single "don't do this" box. No BMPs, left roads/drag lines in terrible condition, no SMZs, wood left blocking waterways, and just outright waste.

Luckily, I'm the one who flagged the timber cuts, so I made sure I left SMZs. But I caught them running the skidders up and down the middle of my creeks. If I had turned them in, that would have been a serious fine.
