Rock Island kayak fishing

I know many people fish the lake but has anyone ever fished the Creeks from a kayak? If so, any pointers? I'm not asking for anyone's honey hole but I've never been before and I was hoping for some kind of direction. I may or may not have children in their boats. Most of what I read seems like most of the water is for white water kayaks so not worth trying to fish.

Well the fishing was mostly a bust. Caught a few crappie under the old bridge above the dam. The paddling was great though even for my 7 year old daughter.
