Auctions are legal because it is just a purchase by the highest bidder. Raffles are designated as a game of chance, since everyone pays the same and it is luck if you win. I had this explained to me several years ago.

Every hoodlum in other states are coming here...it's not the Tennessee we are accustomed to .Holy crap. That's ridiculous. We do it all the time here! We just had like 3 knife raffles.
As long as it is amongst our private members only group...let's choose a 1000 bucks and sell some numbers at $10 or 20 or 50 and help the guy out. Put a limit on number you can purchase so nobody is damaged by the evils of raffle gambling!
