This is a great thread to teach the importance of search search search. Never assume that you missed, or that you "barely" hit a deer. Look for sign at the point of the shot, and if possible, if there's no sign immediately, pick up the trail where the leaves are torn up where the deer left the area. I've followed a few before that left little to no sign at the point of impact, but within 20-40 yards found very sparse spatterings of blood, then the sign got heavier, and after a 150 yard tracking job found the buck. Good hit, just an amazingly strong animal with the will to live like no other.
