Son Tagged Out with Bucks

That's awesome. Congrats to him, and to his proud papa!

"He thought it was a little bigger when he called me after he shot"

I think we are all familiar with that phenomenon, but a great deer nonetheless.

My son punched his second buck tag this afternoon on a heavy horned 8pt. He's put in the time to kill this deer and done it all on his own. He got the permission, scouted, and picked his spot. There is a shooting house there that I thought was in a better spot, but he picked a spot on the ground where a hay field dumps into a cut corn field and surrounded by a thicket. He's hunted 8 afternoons straight and a few mornings mixed in. He's actually set this field the last 7 evenings.

He asked if he could take my gun this afternoon. He killed it at 170 yards which is farther than I've ever killed one even with a rifle. He thought it was a little bigger when he called me after he shot but still a nice deer and tickled.

Yep, been there. He's not too disappointed. He was hunting a bigger deer but still a good deer nonetheless and a great shot to boot. I asked him this morning when I left for work if he was still excited, and he said yes.

he had a great season. now he can sleep in and avoid the stinging cold that awaits the rest of us
He's taking his sister this evening and Saturday morning if she hasn't punched her second tag yet. This helps ol Dad out. She had a great opportunity last Friday afternoon but didn't work out for her.
