Tennessee Secondary

That secondary is a pile of slaw. Anthony Richardson will have a breakout game.

I think over half his passes were completed to the back out of the backfield. We didn't do terrible covering their receivers downfield but the little flares to the backs hurt us

The only reason this secondary hasn't been torched yet is because the front 7 has played surprisingly good.

Vols have some help coming three 4* DBs in the 2023 class right now with two very good edge rushers.

I went on 247 to see when the vols last Recruited 3 or more 4* or better DBs in a cycle........ 2016!

Nigel warriors (Safety)
Tyler Byrd (CB) went on to play WR if I remember .
Marquill Osborne(CB)

Tennessee just hasn't done well getting the secondary players Knoxville

I agree with the first part. The RB out of the backfield was money for them. I strongly disagree with the second part. There were many completions where there was no DB within 8 yards of the receiver. Blame it on zone defense. Blame it on the full moon or global warming. The fact is they need to improve and fast.

Yeah, if we don't get somewhat of a pass rush against those teams I don't think are secondary has a chance.
I think this works the other way also. We got a pretty good, consistent rush against Pitt and our corners, Burrell in particular, gave their WRs an 8 yard cushion. If you can bring pressure up front your dbs have to play tighter. And you may give up a big play here and there but to me it's worth it because you're also just as likely to force them into a mistake.

Alonte Taylor and Theo Jackson covered up a lot of issues for us last year. I think overall the defense is playing better but we don't have anyone with near their talent on the back end, yet. Some of the young guys may develop but they've got to see playing time first.

I kind of agree with everybody, our secondary is a weak spot to me but I do think it and the defense overall are better than last year.

I meant bad in comparison to what we've been in coverage with our secondary downfield in the past several years but compared to good secondaries they have a long ways to go. Mostly I just wanted to point out most of their completions Saturday were to the back out of the backfield and that's not really on the corners and safety's.

Tennessee defense sucks. They'll never get there.
D line isn't bad. Not stellar but not bad. That secondary looks like a pile of hot garbage though. I could get my dainty daughters out there to make better tackles. And the overrunning the tackle so you don't have to hit thing is getting old. Be a man and put a helmet on somebody
