The normalization of modern turkey hunting.

Man people like to push there way of hunting on others and say your way isn't hunting. I tagged out this year in two states and killed on in another. The number of birds reaped this year was one and i missed another that charged in to about ten yards I will say I enjoyed them just as much as the others. Next time I fan one in to ten yards I will try to remember that it's the wrong way if hunting and I should be ashamed.

Two of the last 3 turkeys I cleaned had shot in them from previous encounters with hunters. One had a healed lower wing bone, the two bone sections had fused together. There were nickel plated 6 s in him. I killed him with a broad head. The other had tss 9s in his body and legs. I don't remember crippling many back in the wait until he's 30 yards and put Winchester 12 gauge magnum load of copper plated 4s in his head and neck. Now it's hey watch this , I can shoot them out to 90 yards with my $12 shells

Again the above shows that your priority is "tagging out". If it wasn't you wouldn't have mentioned it. But you did, as a way to validate you fanning birds As a means to an end.

What you don't understand is the mentality difference, when you go to the woods your goal is to punch that tag by any legal means necessary. When myself and the others lobbying against fanning, or really decoys as a whole, go to the woods. We obviously want to be successful but the manner in which we find success trumps punching a tag to tag out as fast as possible.

Hey man that's great if that's how you enjoy turkey hunting, I have killed plenty of turkeys that same way and love it. I wish you well in your in your venture to make decoys illegal and what not but I spend thousands of dollars and hundreds of man hours planting food plots just for turkeys, have sections of our land clear cut and doing yearly controlled burns and our turkey population has exploded since starting that three years ago. I can guarantee you I do more work improving my local turkey population than you do,but I am fortunate in owning land and I realize others don't. Also took my little cousin out on youth weekend and he shot his first Tom but I will have to call the young man and tell him he did something wrong because we had a hen and strutter decoy as our setup.

I might suggest you stop assuming you know what I do or don't do. Good for you on managing your land. You aren't alone….

Hey setterman, I mean no hate/bashing torwards you because I'm just messin, but have you ever heard of the sayin," you don't know till you try it?" Maybe consider reaping a Tom and you might be hooked for life 😂😂

These thoughts are not mine but those of an unnamed biologist. It's appropriate for this thread. Turkey habitat hasn't changed much over the decades. That's not the problem with declining populations. The greatest threat to the turkey population is predators. Not coyotes, not nest raiders or hawks or owls. They have always been around. The ultimate predator is the modern turkey hunter with his decoys, fans and tss. He is a very efficient killer. Even beginners can kill a turkey. Once the boss gobbler is dead, the secondary gobbler is an inefficient, thus an ineffective breeder. This is what needs to change if the turkey population is to rebound.

Reading the subtitle of the pic makes it clear that they chose the pic because it is a method affected by the new regs. No different that posting a pic of a bump stock when those were outlawed.

No offense but isnt that what you just done about his statement of tagging out? It kinda goes both ways. I dont have a dog in the race, but whats good for one is good for both.
Not sure what you're getting at, he was acting like he's the only one who owns and manages land. My response was simply he's not alone in that regard. Had nothing to do with tagging out

My goal is never to tag and it's to Hunt turkeys till I can't hunt them anymore and that usually means I tag out hence why I go to other states. We set harvest goals on our properties based on number of different gobbles and trail cams also limit the number we kill in the early season. 3 of the Turkeys I killed last year was with no decoy at all, not because I didn't want to sometimes they hammer so close then hen has to stays in the vest. I realize I'm not alone in managing land but I don't personally know of many others around here that go to such extremes to manage just for turkeys. So letting some blow hards tell me how I can kill the turkeys that happen across my land is a joke ! Only the rule book tells me how I can and can't hunt and everyone else can shove it 😂

Never tried it myself, but looks like a fun and exciting way to hunt. Maybe I'll try it before it gets outlawed, maybe not. But I will say the anti's are loving the infighting between hunters. Some of you want to bellyache about a legal tactic while bragging about your pattern and your TSS. Keep fueling the PETA fire and don't be surprised if the powers-that-be shut it all down for a season in the name of conservation and restoration. But once that happens, it might never come back. And if that scenario sounds a little far-fetched, than you're not paying close enough attention to what's going on in America today.

Some of us have warning of the drastic stuff for years. Started with the 4 bird limit, and has continued. We are the ones hammering for years now about the selfishness of today may destroy tomorrow. So far sadly our predictions are all coming true, this has nothing to do with PETA as no matter what they hate hunting and that will never change.

How does it look to the antis when dipshits are posting YouTube videos of them killing a bird at a few feet then laughing and celebrating because they crawled up on it?

Our community is its own worst enemy with the new age hunters and kill at all costs. Sadly you and them don't even see it. You see it as if it's legal it's cool. Many of us do, and it's part of the reason we are adamantly against it

you want no closed season? Time to address the hard choices and take an honest look at what the new age hunters and tactics are doing. Those of us who don't want a closed season are fighting like hell, but battling the if it's legal it's okay crowd.
