Not quite as fast as Setterman's bird the other day but I killed one that absolutely started chain gobbling a little after 10a this morning. He was dead within 10 minutes. Saw 1 other tom with a jake (no hens) and heard another bird walking and gobbling (no hen talk).

Just passing along the data point...in my area they're looking pretty hard for a date right now.

I had 2 try to commit suicide Saturday morning 5minutes after fly down. Lots of gobbling Saturday and Sunday. I missed one Saturday morning! First miss since 1996 guess I was due!

I had one Saturday morning fire up on his own. Moved above him into the woods and saw him on the edge of the field no more than 75 yards away. I did one soft yelp series and he picked up the pace and walked off to never be heard from again. Stupid turkeys!!!

Yessir, they sure are. Even with this monsoonal rain and gale force winds, the hunting has been good. We've killed three in three days here in the NF. I killed a suicidal 2 year old at 12:25 today. Got up this morning and seen it was pouring and wind was cranking. Went back to bed and headed to the woods around 11:00. Parked at a gated road that has a real pretty 1.5 acre planted wheat field not 200 yards from the gate. Spot gets absolutely hammered by the googans and everyone else. Regardless of pressure, there is always a Gobbler or two set up on the ridges above and bench below. Got out and got my stuff together and just leaned against my truck and decided to listen for a few minutes, as the wind had lulled. Within minutes a crow fires off towards the back side of the field and a turkey gobbles. He's down on a pine bench below the field. I know the ground well and work my way to a proven kill spot. I get about 75 yards from where I want to be and he hammers at me walking in the leaves about 25 yards past my intended position. I decided to try him from where I was and found a good tree. Got settled in and gave 'em a few sharp, popping clucks on my wingbone yelper. Had no sooner tucked it back into my shirt pocket, slipped a mouth yelper in, and pulled up my facemask, when I caught his snow white crown bobbing through the pines coming on a dead run. Moved my gun from my knee to my shoulder when I could, got on his neck and turned 'em a flip at 17 steps. Was over in less than 25 minutes.

I'm hoping the same will happen for me soon too! I'll try to get an hours hunting in the morning before I need to leave for work.

Sounds like an awesome hunt. You should leave those tame mountain birds alone for a day and come hunt some of our wiley field birds.

Didn't set the alarm this morning. Woke up anyway and checked the radar. Half of the county was getting a deluge. That's where I had planned to go.

But, the other half was in the clear, so since I couldn't go back to sleep I got ready and headed to a spot on that side 25 mins away from the house.

Found a bird unexpectedly close to the where I had parked with an early owl call. I went around him so as to not be calling from the road, which I know he has heard a lot this season. I sat up within 150 yards or so and listened to him plead for a hen to come to him. I bet he gobbled 50x before flydown. As it got closer to flydown, I gave one soft yelp and he tore it up. I put the call up, he hushed, and I waited. And I waited. And I waited. He finally gobbled again and was 150 more yards to my right but toward the road.

I chased and finally got within striking distance. He had cranked back up. He quadrupled gobbled to my call, and again I thought I was in business. He hushed, and I waited. And I waited. And I waited. He vanished. I finally called again and nothing. Waited 30-45 mins and nothing.

I then made a loop back to the road which has a clear cut on the other side. For giggles, I cut real hard. You guessed it! I didn't wait as long this time as I was tired from the trek and he only gobbled once.

I know he was floating behind a hen, but I just couldn't pull him and had to head in to work. I hate turkeys.

Almost a repeat of yesterday except this was a field turkey with hens. Girls all headed for nesty looking areas by 9:45 and I never made a peep til they exited the field. He gobbled every other breath from 150 yards out, walked right up my gun barrel, and was quivering in a heap by 10:00. One more squeeze of the trigger and that's it for me; been a good spring.

Maybe there is hope.

Saying the same here!
Here too. I'm off Thursday Friday and Saturday. Not sure whether to hunt my lease or go to LBL. I'm afraid my birds have left the woods and are living on neighboring properties with green pastures. I still have a weeks vacation I saved for turkey season but haven't seen anything to make me use it yet.
