Tree stands left in the LBL woods

Good job on the litter pickup.

Taking that treestands would be stealing, not sure why so many guys that think 2 wrongs make a right in this situation.
No, yea, all kidding aside, I sort of agree, but to a point. If the stands are marked properly, and everything except a few days or even weeks after season is the only thing then yea, it may be seen as stealing because you never know what caused the delay. But the one with the chain I would consider abandoned, and would remove it.

If you've hunted the TN side, marked up the woods with orange, pink flagging...went back the next season looking for your "spot", and all those bright orange illegal ornaments were gone, I'm your huckleberry...
Thankfully I use gps now. I was raised using bright eyes and the first time I went up to LBL by myself I set up a bright eye trail Almost a mile long.. needless to say I encounter countless other bright eyes to the point I could not follow my trail.

I also remove flags from any public land. And just so everyone knows I definitely am not the guy that takes the bottom ladder off of your stand and puts it on the next ridge over.

We'll drag them out to the road and notify law enforcement..Some of these are deep in the woods..Maybe they can auction the stands off and spend the proceeds for some much needed N/S trail markers..The trailhead kiosks are in terrible shape..

It sure sounds like abandoned property to me, especially if regulations state they must be removed within 5 days after season ends.

One last point; I have always been one that if I arrived late to the spot I wanted to hunt(public land) and a vehicle(s) had beat me to it, I went elsewhere so as not to mess up that hunter's hunt...same for tree stands I find up where I want to hunt...IF some person leaves the stand up year round it becomes a guessing game when or if that hunter is even using it that hunting season, or on a quota gun hunt he only gets drawn on every couple years, on and on; several scenarios comes to mind...Couple that with unsafe stands due to Chinese cheap ratchet straps, ozone damaged bungees, and squirrels chewing on the vulnerable parts through one or more seasons....

So flagging and bright eyes are illegal at LBL ?

The fact that the regulations state names / contact numbers need to be on stands and they aren't would be my first clue that someone is willfully trying to skirt those rules.

I also understand that extenuating circumstances may keep someone from getting them out within 5 days, maybe a family emergency or something but that's why the contact name / number is important.

I've never taken one down (except on my families property) but if I hunted public i personally would consider stands with no name / contact info to have been abandoned a few months after the season closed.

I have never stolen a thing in my life, at least knowingly. I see this as no different than finding a $10 bill on the sidewalk in downtown Nashville. Is there a difference?

I think the first time I hunted there was 2000. I walked up to a tree with a hang on stand overlooking a salt lick. Last time I was there, about 4 years ago that stand was still there and grown into the tree. Area 13 btw.

Are there any regulations stating who can remove the stands after the required time period? Is it considered litter officially? Can the "litter" be removed by anyone?
I think these questions need to be answered before some claims it's stealing to remove them.

I informed LBL law enforcement about the increasing amount of "hardware" aka treestands being left and they advised to let them know where they were..

The December tornado probably took care of some of the stands left from years past...

Back in the day I'd leave a $100 bill laying on the ground if it was anywhere near Printers Alley!
