I personally would like to see the bag limit at 2, start season two weeks later and a minimum 6 in beard restriction.

Wouldn't mind seeing a 1 bird limit per WMA either. Like they are doing in West TN.

Beard restrictions? That's a little overkill don't you think?

Only real legal way to protect jakes IMO. If a tom or two with beard rot get through the cracks it wouldn't be the end of the world.

I like Mississippi's system for protecting jakes.

I'd rather they at least try A step in the right direction. There will ALWAYS be debates but at least a step would show some good will and maybe make a difference. Even a small step so long in the right direction makes a difference.

Mainly I hunt on Fort Campbell and a few years back they dropped the limit from 4 to 2 birds. Now I haven't spoken to the wildlife biologist but I have spoken to the game warden and he says that the population has increased on post. And I know this year during deer season and squirrel season I saw a lot of turkey. Going to get out and start scouting some areas next week. So I definitely think that lowering the limit can work. And by the way Fort Campbell starts a week before Tennessee.

OK, somebody school me. I don't see any advantage to not killing Jake's. I can see cutting the limit back helping

I'm looking at it like a herd of cattle. Keep all your heifers and eat the bull calves but don't eat the herd bull

I'm thinking if I was trying to build turkey population, I would only kill Jakes. If they were plentiful then kill a couple but if not kill one or none

If I kill the herd turkey early in the season then the Jake population will be low the next

If you kill mostly jakes, lets say for 5 years in a row, where are your adults? Throw a bad hatch or two in there and your population would be in rough shape. Looking at them like cattle doesn't work because you don't need a large number of bulls to breed your cows. You do however need a large number of toms to make a good hunt.
