I am sure you have but consider the weight of five 12 gauge shells vs five 20 gauge shells. I'm assuming someone is carrying 5 shells with them and know there is a slight difference in weight in a 12 vs 20.
I also wouldn't discount an 870 20 ga with 18" barrel. I would research the pattern forum for 12 and 20 on the old gobbler forum and see what I could find.
It's still gonna be hard to beat your current set up considering all factors but understand reducing weight. It was a big move weight wise for me going from an 870 12 to a compact 20, but I'm currently satisfied with the compact 20.
