Was this posted? Hunters shot behind turkey fan!

I could possibly see this incident as the beginning of the end for fanning. It's an absolute shame these folks got shot and hopefully they make a full recovery.

The sooner this garbage is outlawed the better. It's bad for the sport, population, and safety. Take it and all the plastic turkeys to where they belong....the landfill. Gobbler numbers would rapidly increase and the number of googans would drop precipitously

I don't feel a thang ;) Natural selection will weed them out.
Heck yeah! I say remove all the safety stickers and guards off all machinery

I would love to say I'm against fanning but I'm not. Lol

Sad. I know fanning had something to do with it, but my gosh why would anyone just aim at a fan and pull the trigger? That's on the shooter more than the guys using the fan. I still don't condone using a fan but people need to have some self-control or stop engaging in an activity that involves firearms.

Way, way, way more shootings turkey hunting in the past 30 years from someone shooting a hunter calling not even using decoys. Turkey hunting is THE most dangerous hunting we have when it comes to hunting 'accidents'. Birds gobbling, hunters coming to that bird from all directions, in full camo... it's a recipie for disaster if the gunner is not extremely careful. Heck, I had a trespasser following birds I was calling in a couple years ago shoot directly toward me and my guests. Fortunately, he was about 100 yards away when he shot, so no one was injured. I'm not saying that fanning doesn't increase the risk of someone getting shot... it probably does exponentially. But it hasn't been a fad for very long, therefore not as many accidents involving their use.

It's so dangerous, I won't even allow my friends to hunt separately from me. No way I'm taking a chance on my friends shooting one another accidentally.

Oh, I did see a pretty cool umbrella that had a giant turkey on it. Might come in handy turkey hunting during a rainstorm. But the $100 pricetag made me realize I'd rather just get rained on.

I read this a couple days ago. Both parties are to blame - the guy knew his buddies were on the same lease, and he shot at a fan with no head I assume...also I'm assuming he knew his buddies had the fan with them...stupid on both sides. Can't just blame the fanning trend for this one...oh and they're from Arkansas, lol

Here's what I don't get. When you take your hunter safety education what's the first thing they mention not to do while turkey hunting or at least they use to? Don't wear white, red or blue but allowing you to crawl behind a real fan is ok?

Just outlaw it. I know a guy that has killed 6 this year already fanning. Ridiculous.

if there's a good reason to outlaw it, population would be the most important I think. People know it's risky to crawl behind a fan, if they do it in an iffy situation they kind of have it coming if they get shot. But for the sake of having birds to hunt I think it needs to be closely watched and if there is a decline happening then fanning should be one thing to go.

Nice try. Standard decoys aren't going anywhere. Fanning might be, but these guys weren't fanning as most on here define it, if the story is accurate.

There is a law already in place in Tennessee that would prevent this. It's the one that says it has to have a visible beard.

Which is a shame. If folks had to kill turkeys without plastic toys we wouldn't have so many googans in the woods. I don't have a big problem with hen decoys (although I think it's silly that some folks can't sit down and make a call without a plastic turkey looking back at them) but the strutting toms and fanning need to go. And I'd be good if all decoys were outlawed. I think our sport would be much more healthy if people had to learn how to hunt. But you are correct. It'll never happen. Just like our stupid fall season, legal slaughter of hens, 6 week season (7 if you count juvenile), and not protecting jakes, Tennessee is more interested in "opportunities for enjoyment" than anything else. But that's a debate for another day.
