West TN Duck Reports

Not a bad day for our gar hole. Lots of ducks the last 30 minutes

My experience as well. Saturday started cloudy and still and then foggy. Teal everywhere and ducks that worked. Worked the call and at times just worked the decoys. We were using lots of subtle motion decoys (swimmers, and new mallard machine) so we had good water movement on the still water. When the wind picked it oddly slowed down a little for us and we really had to work on birds to get the last few for our limits.

Sunday was a completely different day all together. The classic duck weather, clear, cold and windy, proved not to be fruitful. Much fewer ducks in the air. Fewer shots all around us. Ducks wanting to light wide. Scratched out five and called it a day about 10:00 am.

Now the question is, where do/does that many teal go in one afternoon? Did they just hunker down or did they actually migrate out Saturday night on the NW winds and big moon?

There were more mallards seen on Sunday but they didn't want into our spot.
 
Been mostly slow around our stomping grounds. Some guys having more luck but generally slow. This weather hasn't helped much yet but our water is really low and I think that hurts us far more than weather helps. Maybe if we can get a good thaw the last week some will spread out and we may get into a few but expectations are low. Having said that I'll be out there every chance I can from now until the end

I believe the thaw will help a bunch of folks too. We used to always wish for a hard freeze up to make them move but seems now that they just sit tight til the thaw.
Hunted yesterday with a nice open hole and the ones we saw did it right. Just didn't see as many as expected.
Gonna try the afternoon today since the wind is forecasted to increase out of NW.

They move at night I believe. Talked to a buddy said had a field full of mallards and pintails. Hunted next morning and was nothing but teal.
 
Much better in West TN. 6 man Sat and 4 man Sunday. Fewer ducks moving Monday but they worked good. Tons of geese. Saw very few come to roost Saturday afternoon watched hole after we finished. When we came in Sunday field was flat loaded with mallards had dozens swimming in our decoys. I guess they came in the middle of the night?

I have open water near whites lake. I hunted by myself today, l killed a limit, but didn't see 50 ducks. Same thing yesterday. I haven't froze this year. Just no traffic today. Buddy hunted the Mississippi. Saw 10 duks. I'm puzzled. I think sittin. Geese moved late.

Yeah some spots kill with ice because they always have good traffic. Ducks know it's frozen and don't venture out much. The best way I've found is to run the pumps and stay out for a day or two and let em get in there thick… They will find it at night . Then it's on…
