West TN Taxidermist

How far are you willing to travel? My uncle is a taxidermist in NW TN. Would likely be 2 hours from you though. Daniel's Rack Shack and Taxidermy in South Fulton, TN. He has a Facebook page you can check out.

Also I see a guy around Jackson his name is Tim Rixie, don't know his prices but seems to do good work from what I see online.

All around used to be Johnny Hataway...pricey and long waits but worth the artistry if he did it and not a studio artist although they were good too. Been several years since I used them.

Deer only...I would suggest Jeff King along 72 outside Ashland, MS. Good price, great work, good turn around.

If you want it back quick Middle Tn Bryan's Taxidermy Winchester TN $280. Does over 400 deer a year, best price best turnaround.

Last couple I've had done were by David Smith. He's between Lexington and Jackson. Really good work. Around $400. Dropped off in November and got them back around August/September.

Sending you the contact info to the only guy i would ever take something to.... Buck McCalpin

Buck does good work but he's not someone I'd recommend. He's super, super, super slow. I know people that has waited several years to get their mount back.

Did they pay there 50% down payment? Reason I ask is I have had several guys tell me this same story and when I checked with Buck, he told me they never paid their 50% down, thus he just skinned them out and had them in his freezer, awaiting his 50% up front.

Along these same lines, Buck has had one of my best bucks since 2014. The reason why is I have not paid my 50% down and I am not sure I want it shoulder mounted. He has touched base with me more than once and told me I need to make a decision, as recently as last month. The thought of another shoulder mount just continues to wane as I get older without any more wall space. I'll likely pick up my antlers this year and throw them in my shop with the others.

My .02

True statement. My taxidermist Buck Mcalpin worked with Johnny back in the day, and advised me to use him if something ever happened to Buck.

As recent as a few years ago, a buddy of mine tried and tried and tried to reach Johnny, who had his deer, and finally had to send him a certified letter threatening to come get it. Upon receipt of the letter, Johnny reached out to him, mounted his buck, and they called it good.

As usual, anyone worth hiring is swamped and most likely taking on more work than they can handle.

That very well may be the case. It's just odd that reputation follows him but not other taxidermist in the area.

Johnny was a friend of a friend and I used him for a few deer and a turkey back when he was over around Cooper Young...

Shelby Forest Taxidermy did my bobcat a few years ago. Fair price and it was ready in 6 months.
