I took what I thought was a good shooting 22 to my first match. When the scores came in there was a dude in last place, I finished a few shots behind him, lol.

In our neck of the woods , most guys shoot a cz.. the begara, then tikka.
AI says the most common rifle in the factory class is the Savage B-22. Is it wrong? 
Ammo selection is right up there with rest selection.. I took my rifle to Ohio , to the lapua test center to see which lot of center x shot best in my gun.. then I bought 5000 rounds of that lot..

I shot 8 matches this year in Outlaw Lite with a Turbo. Talk about spoiling a guy, lol.
I shot in a factory match in KY and was thinking, "this card sucks." I won, lol.
Any Anschutz 54s?

Marlin or glenfield 25 is cheap and accurate
Savage varmint is still cheap for a new rifle and accurate outside of a competition
As for cheap ammo that is accurate, my vote would be cci standard velocity.

Well.. there's been over a dozen cheap rifles mentioned to answer the OP's question.. what's wrong with expanding the thread??
Cheap? I bought a Remington 522 Viper at a pawn shop for $60. It is the cheapest rifle I've ever bought and one of the funnest to shoot that I've ever had. I used to take it coon hunting when I got into that and my uncle loved it because it didn't weigh hardly anything and was more accurate than his pistol. He ended up buying it from me.
I've got a Winchester Model 190 .22 that was always a tight shooting little rifle, shooting squirrels and cans.
Depends on your idea of cheap. Somehere around 20 yrs ago you could have bought a CZ 452 American for around $250. I passed on them stbthe time because CZ was unknown to me. Several years later, I ended up buying 2 for $400+ and they were well worth every penny. In hindsight, I wish I had bought a pallet of them for $250 each.
