What call did you start out with.

If you remember. What call did you start hunting with? I started out with an H.S. Strut Black Widow glass call. I'm pretty sure it's not what came with it but I had an H.S. Strut rosewood striker I used with it. I also had a H.S. Strut mouth call of some kind. It was probably the "Raspy Old Hen" or something similar to it. That's the mouth call I used for years. No matter what custom calls I have in my vest, I still carry one of those to use sometimes.

I have no idea what call I started out with over 30 years ago. Love the HS Strut "Raspy Old Hen" diaphragm. Picked up 2 more at the convention

I started turkey hunting back in the 80's and bought a Penn's Wood's slate,I think it was named a Tom Taker.It was square and had 4 screws,one in each corner.You could loosen the screws and it changed the tone.I later bought a Ben Lee trough call and it sounded much better than the Penn Woods called.Times sure have changed in the turkey woods.

A little bitty plastic slate call. Never forget it. It had an acrylic striker. I killed several with that little call and then backed over it with it my truck. Bought another one just like it. Never had another turkey gobble at it. Lol.

HS Strut Field Champion "Natural" box call. Still have it and it still sounds good 15 years later.

H.S. Strut Raspy Old Hen. I've never killed a turkey with a pot call. I didn't even carry one until 2 years ago. I've always carried mouth calls and killed a bunch with the Raspy Old Hen. I've moved on to some custom calls now but still buy a new Raspy Old Hen every year to carry. I don't think I called in one with it last year, but my season was cut short also. I did see at least 2 die from it in '16.

Quaker Boy Old Boss Hen
Third year I started using a Lil Deuce slate.

Ever since, I buy a few mouth calls each year, just whatever I grab off the shelf and make them work.

Homemade plastic slate call that had a hole in the top, from who knows where,
Homemade mouth call, again, don't know what kind or who, I just remember buying one from a guy,
And a lynch fool proof.

20 gauge single shot with a modified barrel.

A Homemade Box Call, Walnut body, Red Oak lid.
My Dad made it for me when I was 8-9. It was stolen, along with a bunch of other stuff, 15 or so years ago.
I'm 54 now, Dad's 80. I'd give 10K to get that call back.
