A 3 pack of HS strut diaphragms in 2010. I think there was a raspy ol hen, split V and one I didn't like (double something or other). Couldn't use any of them well enough to call so I didn't call much and just ambushed them. I still have a raspy ol hen in my vest, but admittedly i am not good with a diaphragm call.

Then in 2014 bought a Lil deuce and Mad slate pot call. Learned to use them, but never could seal the deal. Bought a Halloran's Crystal Mistress in 2015 and have actually started calling. Bought a bunch of pots since then from makers that guys here have turned me on to. Been able to call birds and kill them since. It took me a while to self teach myself, and about 5 years of hunting before I called my first one in, but I am hooked now.

Quaker Boy Old Boss Hen, there's no telling how many mornings and seasons I started out with one of those in my mouth.

That was the diaphragm call that I learned to mouth call with and I still buy one every year and use on opening day if for no other reason than a self imposed tradition.

back in early 90's, I was 12 y/o when a local outdoor retailer had a demo/Q&A show at a high school with the HS Strut guys. Matt Morrett, Walter Parrott & Tom Stuckey came in and did calling demo and talked turkeys. At the end, they passed out free HS Double D mouth calls. I wore it out learning to call on a diaphragm. Killed 2 birds late 90's with that model and still buy one every year. Probably killed a few more using it.

Knight and hale old yeller, a bunch of birds have died because of that call.

That was a great call. Killed a few with that one, till I lost it deep on National Forest lands many years ago.

HS Strut Field Champion "Natural" box call. Still have it and it still sounds good 15 years later.

I still have this call... bought it on clearance at Walmart back in late 90's. Can't count the number of birds that I've killed or called in for others with it. Tried to replace it numerous times, but I keep going back to it.

I had a Primos Old Betsy as my first...I didn't know what to do with it lol but it was my first one
