Having looked at lots of bucks laying on the concrete up at Ames for many years, you get a lot of judging practice. You can pretty quickly get an estimate of the class first (130, 135. Etc) and then start adding or subtracting a little here and there to come up with an estimate within 5-10 inches. I will say I'm much better looking at someone else's buck on the ground than I am field judging my own. I've made some mistakes.
